Hmmm... Whiteflash. Didn't someone on here have a bad experience with them? I was planning on going w/Bluenile because I can save 10% and get 3% cashback and they accept paypal. The whiteflash diamonds seem a tiny bit out of my budget too (they all seem to start at $500 or $600, plus the cost of the setting).
Maybe I'll email WF and see what they can do.
So far, I've been looking at .33 diamond with yellow-gold setting for about $650. I'm not really a diamond person... What's the best thing to compromise on for the pendant (color? clarity?).
btw- the pricescope pics are very helpful, thanks!
You can usually let up a bit on clarity and color, because no one's going to look at the necklace closer than standing at least 2 feet away. SI1 and H color are still going to allow a diamond to show as white and eye clean. Depending on your color-sensitivity, you may be able to go even lower, to maybe an I color (which even Tiffany sells). Sometimes, if you find the right stone, an SI2 will be eye-clean, but I'd recommend looking at those in person first. A "good" cut, as opposed to ideal, still sparkles. I've seen some "signature cut" diamonds offered at stores that were only a "good" cut.
I see a few .31 carat, SI1, G/H, Very Good cut GIA certed stones on Blue Nile for $390-399.
Also, I remember Swanky saying that she had taken the quoted price for a 3+ct diamond from Whiteflash to her jeweler to give them a chance to beat it. She ended up getting a better price and a .50ct increase in size. That's another option for you-- go to a reputable jeweler.
If you want to go with a non-GIA stone, the cost will go down even more. Just make sure you ask if it's clarity enhanced. You'll be able to get a bigger better stone without the cost of the GIA report.
EDIT: I also wanted to say that I went to the local jeweler up the block yesterday and had him price me out a gold ring with five .35 stones (VS2, G, ex. cut). His price was $2500, easily half of what it cost on Whiteflash and that was without doing us any favors.
