Hey there, long time Paris sale go-er here. I have a feeling there will either not be a sale in Paris, or if there is, it will be for locals.
Why? Well, when there were sales in Paris in previous, pre-pando years, you would normally find stuff that came back from other countries; usually the other EU countries, but not limited to them. I once bought a scarf from the Paris sale that had a UAE price tag attached. So, it seemed the Paris sale strategy was to rent out a huge space and sell all the consolidated merch from different countries (at least within the tax zone) there, and be done.

This year, a lot of countries have had their own sales. As someone pointed out, the UK had a sale recently for a week. Germany and Milan had sales already. I live in Switzerland and we have our sale next week. It's private clients on the Monday, then open to the public Tuesday, BUT! you must have signed up ahead of time (and you need a covid pass, yada yada). If this is the approach - to rent smaller spaces and keep it within the tax borders - they might not have so much inventory to sell in a big, open to the public sale.

Plus, if you've ever been to the sale, you'd know it's absolute chaos, and that seems dangerous with the pandemic still a real problem.

Additionally, I think the local sale will be true for another year or more. Merch that goes to the sale is usually 2 years old. Two years before January 2022 was January 2020, the start of the pandemic. France shut down in March, and that means that no products were produced for months. I mean, half the things my store ordered were cancelled, and they only did partial runs of colors for scarves that were planned last year (I'm still mad about Wild Singapore). But it's not just that one season we lost - France had strict lockdowns of not traveling more than a km from home, and once they were back working, they may have had factory staffing limitations that meant reduced staffing. And if you add to that the probable staffing shortages from illness/quarantines/etc, they have just not been able to produce much stuff in the last two years.

I would bet the sale strategy for the coming year is going to be to keep it local and on the smaller side, setting up sales in each major market (city if in the US probably, or country where it's small, like Switzerland).

Hopefully I am wrong, but I think, don't get your hopes up for a great sale.

I do have one bit of intelligence to share with the Board. There is a company called Arlettie that does sample sales in Paris and London. Some of the sales are really good and they ran the recent London Hermès sale. You can buy Arlettie VIP membership for EUR250 per year (standard membership is EUR50 or you can attend sales without membership, you just get in later and have to stand in longer lines). Anyway Arlettie told me that they might run an Hermès sale in Paris in May 2022, however that is not yet confirmed (and I wouldn’t expect confirmation for some time as Arlettie only announces their sales a couple of months in advance typically).
I’m not giving up on January Hermes sale at Palais des Congrès. Normally they don’t give out confirmation of January sale until December. My guess is that sale won’t be open to everyone if it happens in January as whenever I go up H store in France now when they look me up on their phone is shows that I am “on the list” for the sales. It seems to be that is how they are moving in France. But who knows, we will see soon.

My guess is that they have a lot of old stock to sell. Hermès profits are way up globally and they haven’t been able to run sales to the normal degree that they do them in Paris. I bet there is a lot of unsold stuff…

I have been told by my SA at Sèvres that there will be a winter sale in Paris. This was back in May, so it may have changed, but they confirmed I was in the store’s list of invitees. Now, I did not ask whether it was a public sale too, so it might be like the two private sales of 2021. We should find out soon.

I go every year I hope you’re wrong and it’s happening ;)

This is my 1st sale in Paris...Does anyone know if we need an invitation from an SA for early entry? or is it open to anyone on the 1st day of the Jan sale in the past?
Also, what is the procedure, anything we need to prepare? (apart from the long queue? LOL)
What is the approximate time for the queue? (do we need to pack all 2 meals for the wait? hee hee)
I'm excited as this is my 1st time there, I collected many scarves in the past (regular price..from H stores), so, want to get some scarves with good sale there.

Thank you ;)

If it continues like it has the last year, there barely is a queue since there are timed slots. You may queue inside at the various stations (scarves and shoes in particular). And you do need an invite, although that can just be your name on the list, added by your SA.

arrr, I asked my SA, and she said since I just moved to Paris 2 months ago...it is too late for her to add me to the list...
so, I won't be able to join in this sale  so sad as I wanted to get a few scarves...

@Ruedubac ask again closer to the sale. In early 2021, I hadn’t received mine and my SA added me the day before it started… but slots have gone super fast.

And given the situation, it may not happen altogether
