Hey there, long time Paris sale go-er here. I have a feeling there will either not be a sale in Paris, or if there is, it will be for locals.
Why? Well, when there were sales in Paris in previous, pre-pando years, you would normally find stuff that came back from other countries; usually the other EU countries, but not limited to them. I once bought a scarf from the Paris sale that had a UAE price tag attached. So, it seemed the Paris sale strategy was to rent out a huge space and sell all the consolidated merch from different countries (at least within the tax zone) there, and be done.
This year, a lot of countries have had their own sales. As someone pointed out, the UK had a sale recently for a week. Germany and Milan had sales already. I live in Switzerland and we have our sale next week. It's private clients on the Monday, then open to the public Tuesday, BUT! you must have signed up ahead of time (and you need a covid pass, yada yada). If this is the approach - to rent smaller spaces and keep it within the tax borders - they might not have so much inventory to sell in a big, open to the public sale.
Plus, if you've ever been to the sale, you'd know it's absolute chaos, and that seems dangerous with the pandemic still a real problem.
Additionally, I think the local sale will be true for another year or more. Merch that goes to the sale is usually 2 years old. Two years before January 2022 was January 2020, the start of the pandemic. France shut down in March, and that means that no products were produced for months. I mean, half the things my store ordered were cancelled, and they only did partial runs of colors for scarves that were planned last year (I'm still mad about Wild Singapore). But it's not just that one season we lost - France had strict lockdowns of not traveling more than a km from home, and once they were back working, they may have had factory staffing limitations that meant reduced staffing. And if you add to that the probable staffing shortages from illness/quarantines/etc, they have just not been able to produce much stuff in the last two years.
I would bet the sale strategy for the coming year is going to be to keep it local and on the smaller side, setting up sales in each major market (city if in the US probably, or country where it's small, like Switzerland).
Hopefully I am wrong, but I think, don't get your hopes up for a great sale.![]()
