I was wondering if anyone has ever sold their gold to any of the online "We buy your gold" type companies. I was invited to a gold party by a friend for tomorrow night and so I looked through my jewelry box and realized I do have stuff I can sell. Well I was thinking that I can probably get more selling to one of the companies online. Anyone ever used one that they were happy with?

Yeah you do! I have quote requests in to two sites so I'll let you know which is higher and if I go for it, how it goes!

OK first quote I got was for just under $3,000 and that doesn't include the couple of stones in the pieces. I might actually send in another little pendant I never wear. I also have a couple pieces I didn't include in the weight I sent them that i don't know if they are real gold or not. That's a butt load of money!!

Anyone done this?

Shoppinmel - LOL!!! Did you mean boat-load of $$$??

I would be leary of selling online unless you very aware of the gram wt. that you're sending to them and the exact breakdown of ct (10, 14, 18, etc.) with the latest market prices. IF the pieces still have some stones they will 'guesstimate' the weight of those and deduct from your bottom line. Not saying that you can't get a good deal but just be careful.

Thanks Bagaday. I do have a scale here so that helps a bit with figuring out weight before I send my stuff off. I wouldn't send to anybody unless I hear that someone has had a good experience with them first. I also don't live too far from the LA jewelry mart so that's another option. Most of my pieces don't have stones and the stones in the one piece are really insignificant compared to the gold weight. And I did mean butt-load LOL!! :lolots:

I have used USGoldbuyers and was pleased with my transaction. Even my jeweler friend said that she was impressed!
The last time I tried a gold refiner, I received 50% of the value and I think the USGoldbuyers was closer to 65%.

I sold a bunch of old gold recently. 2 companies come to Vegas on a regular basis & buy. I would not send it to anyone, someone on tpf talked about getting ripped off.

They weigh it out in front of you & give you a price, you can counter offer. Keep in mind they have to make a profit too.

Thank you so much to everyone that has responded. Turns out that my "butt-load" isn't quite as big as I thought it was. :p I read my scale wrong and I don't have 7 oz I have .7 ounces, lol. DUH. I really don't feel terribly comfortable just sending my stuff off in the mail with high hopes of receiving a big check back. That just scares me. Since I live near LA I think I'm gonna just find the highest bidder there and sell locally. Thanks again.

Where I work, we buy back gold and you can either choose to get the cash value or get double the value in store credit. If you have some old crappy stuff and are eyeing a new piece, it's a great way to go. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest that idea to any jeweler of your choice.

I don't think I'd be comfortable shipping off my gold to someone.

I have a silver bracelet that I want to sell (I am in the UK) Its worth peanuts really, about £20 but its been sitting in my jewellery box for years and it seems pointless keeping it. I dont have an issue with sending it away because its barely worth anything, if I get scammed then it wont matter, if I get a small amount of money then thats a bonus!

Well I think I actually decided to use USGoldBuyers. I got estimates locally and none were as high as them and the refiners won't work with the public so that's out. I have family in the pawn business and they even quoted me significantly lower also. I'm gonna go for a leap of faith especially since Lorretta had a good experience with them. Wish me luck!
