It is a leather sole which will naturally get more rough after using it (outside the house) a few times. In rain / with moisture it might be a bit slippery at times. Or on very smooth surfaces like polished granite or marble.

I live in my Orans in summer, they get a bit wet occasionally but their do have no slippery feeling at all anymore.

Personally, I never put rubber soles on leather soles as it takes away the nice flexibility and „thin“ feeling of the leather sole. Plus, the rubber soles might come of and peel away.

Thanks for your input. I'll try to wear them in on some asphalt in the near future.

I did not get the rubber soles put on my first pair of orans and I notice the soles look terrible from walking in NYC. I recently got a 2nd pair and had the soles done and they are definitely not as slippery but I also think it will preserve the sole so the shoe lasts a lot longer and doesn’t show wear. I go to leather spa in NYC for all of my high end shoes and they do an amazing job!

Yes, they will eventually roughen up but I wised up to the rubber sole thing after my first pair and now I have my cobbler add a very thin rubber sole on all my Orans. Particularly for the Orans vs the Santorinis, I think, because they can just fly off your foot without that ankle strap and at least having some friction on the bottom side of the shoe helps with stability.

I had the same issue with my first oran as I almost fell down the stairs leaving the house ... After I went to a trust worthy shoe maker to have rubber soles put in and it made the biggest difference! Now when I get new orans I instantly bring them in to get soles to prevent slip and falls
