Any Downsides to Buying Preloved Without Certificate?

I've bought two Cartier items from Fashionphile, a ring and non-love bracelet, and close to 60+ bags from them. The Cartier pieces came with nothing at all. I have never worried about authentication and have never re-authenticated. They willingly buyback their items, have a solid guarantee, and they employee people with extensive gem/jewelry backgrounds to check the jewelry. Certificates and receipts and paperwork are so easily faked that those really make no difference in my purchase decisions.

Thank you!!

I bought a preloved Cartier ring from Fashionphile, so I know it’s authentic. However, it doesn’t come with a certificate of authenticity. Are there significant downsides to buying it without a certificate? I managed to save $800.

As others said, mostly resale. Also if you tried to sell it to a store rather than privately, some jewelry stores near me will NOT buy any Love or JUC bracelets or rings without the authenticity certificate. No matter who else authenticates it, they will not buy it without Cartier's certificate.

If you are keeping it for yourself and don't care then it may not matter to you.

Hi,
I am new to this forum.
Currently looking at purchasing a Cartier Solitaire 1895 engagement ring pre-loved. This is a “Set for You” piece. The owner was telling me it did not come with the typical certificate of authenticity (with the jewelry number) when she bought it. Instead, it comes with a certificate with her name and diamond GIA report number. Attached for reference, blanked out the details.

Is this possible?

Girl.. don’t pay attention to these people talking smack about buying preloved. You bought from fashionphile? Your item is authentic. Period. They’re partnered directly with Neiman Marcus which wouldn’t do business with a company who sells fakes given that Neiman Marcus has direct relationships with these brands being sold preloved. Plus it is illegal to sell fakes so trust me, if fashionphile wasn’t reputable, Neiman Marcus wouldn’t have no business with them. I have heard of people returning fakes to the brand boutiques and then other people buying them thinking is real because why would they think otherwise if they bought from the boutique… there’s always a chance.. from fashionphile, from the boutique, from the department stores, from anywhere but the chances are very low. If you still want some peace of mind bring your item to Cartier and have it cleaned just say it was a gift. I do this with my handbags I’ve bought from fashionphile, I just have them serviced at the boutique and that way I can have even more peace of Mind. Enjoy your item you got a good deal. Fashionphile has a lifetime guarantee, don’t worry about it!
