Another "Non-Rehab" Reveal!

The funny thing is that yesterday when I was looking at possible rehab bags projects I was also interested in the pink suede tortilla bag pictured at the link below (NMA).

But the pink bag was filthy! Every inch of the pink suede bag was natsy dirty but it was priced at $30 - which is $10 more than my little pristine red nappa bag, go figure!

If the pink suede bag had been a lot cheaper I might have taken a chance on buying it and throwing it into the washer to see if it comes clean, but at that price I thought my little nappa bag was a much better bargain. I don't know why it was priced so cheaply as compared to that big dirty pink thing?! I guess that the pink bag is considered more trendy.

Very nice. :flowers: That red is literally daughter's favorite color.

You know ..... I wonder why this happens. I've honestly been very curious about this for the last few days. Is it that they bought it on a whim, never used it and just never returned it? (And I should note, that's despite Coach's extremely generous, open-ended return policy.) Was it a gift, such that returning it might have hurt someone's feelings?

I realize that the "average" tpf member is probably far more aware-of/careful-with their handbag, but my guess, and my experience, is that the population at large is not. :shrugs: Not that there's anything wrong with that ... I'm not criticizing ... I'm just trying to say that the people on tpf are probably congregated on the more "careful-with-their-bags" end of the scale. The typical population in general, probably would not use a bag with such care that a "used" bag would still end up being pristine ---- thus implying that these "pristine older" bags were probably never even used much. (I hope this is coming out right.) Because we're talking about bags that cost a little more than average. If you're going to buy a bag with a higher-than-average price-tag (or even have it gifted), wouldn't the "typical" person be more likely to use it? After spending all that money? At least use it to the point of not being pristine?

Indeed, in my station bag, there was *literally* not even the hint of a hair, or lint, or even a speck of dust, inside the bag. I'm talking store-counter-fresh. It just really surprises me. :shrugs:

Trust me, I realize it's not like this is a crushingly important quandry in the grand scheme of world events. ;) I'm just saying that, considering Coach's insanely generous and open-ended return policy, I just wonder how a bag ends up so pristine, seventeen years (eg. in my station bag's case) after the fact. Just thinking out loud.

Impulse buying? Realizing when you get the bag home that maybe it's a little too small, or the color doesn't look like it did in the store? Some people probably figure "I'll find a use for it some day" and then just hide it away and forget about it.

I'm glad that so many of us are ready and willing to look for those orphaned bags and give them a second chance, and I feel sorry for the posters who say "Oh, I'd NEVER buy a used bag, I don't want someone else's cast-offs." Their loss is our gain, and our bags may even last long enough to be passed down to our kids and grandkids who will be the envy of their friends for their Totally Kewl collection of vintage bags.

I can understand it better with a specialty bag like the red clip nappa rather than the mahagony station bag. Someone may have splurged on the red bag to go with a special outfit but then never carried it very much and eventually they forgot about it.

But a dark brown station bag is a very practical bag. Even if is a bit small for your everyday bag there will still be plenty of times when you'd like to be hands-free and carry only the essentials.

And if you really don't like a designer bag, don't you have a neice or a neighbor or somebody that you can give it to? Oh well, I'm not complaining because the purchase benefited a charity and she's all mine now! :D

I love finding and reclaiming these abandoned treasures, but I wouldn't be so willing to risk money and labor on my finds if I wasn't confident that I could count on you and the other authentication ladies to tell me if the bag is genuine or not, thank you!

I have already started passing on some of my treasures to friends and relations and they have been very well-received. I recently gave my young neice in high-school a really cute Vera Bradley limited edition Nicole sateen bag that I found for $1.50 as an "extra" birthday gift. It originally retailed for $74. She was really excited about it and can hardly wait for spring so that she can wear it! You can see it at the link below:

Thanks so much, I am happy to have "rescued" this little bag and it sure was an easy rehab!

oooh gorgeous. I"m such a sucker for red. I am constantly looking for vintage Red Coach bags!!

Yes, when I was looking for a red bag to rehab for my Mom I would it very difficult to locate a nice-sized, good-shape red bag at a decent price. The red bags are rare and often expensive!

I found a red station bag and had no idea when I bought it to rehab it , that finding a replacement strap affordably was going to be so hard!! It looks pretty nice, but....I am still on the hunt for that strap!!
