It's beautiful! I think it looks like you'll be getting a 1.24! But yes, you'd save I'm guessing about $2500 - $3500 at that price point by buying it in the US with the Canadian dollar right now. If you want to know the exact difference, next time you go in pick a ring and get the skew # (they'll write it down for you!), then call Tiffany NY and ask them for a price on that skew in the US. If a flight to NYC is $300 each you'd have a nice weekend there and still save $$!

Congratulations! Being a Korean American, I know exactly what you mean about FMIL. I received the traditional Jewelry box filled with jewelry when I got married. Some of them, I still wear, some others I do not wear because they are not really my style. You should definitely give your DBF as much info as possible, and try on different ring styles as well. Your FMIL has to give you something (due to tradition and also she genuinely would want to), so it might as well be something you would really enjoy and wear for the rest of your life.

I'm kind of similar to you! I'm Korean/American & my DBF & I are looking for rings. I was contemplating between Tiffany's and a no name jeweler too! It's so hard to decide, do I want a bigger carat or the brand name?! Decisions decisions..

I wish you guys luck in finding the perfect rings! :)

congratulations on your impending engagement. If your heart is set on the Ribbon ring style, I would definitely get it from Tiffany. I have never seen that style replicated and I think if it was not exactly perfect it would not have the same prescence or effect as the Tiffany version.

With the strong CAD$ right now, I would say you will save at least 20% off your purcahse if you buy the ring in the states. With that said, think about if you are going to pay the Canadian taxes or not when you bring the ring over... If you are going to pay the Canadian taxes then you will probably only save 5% cuz you will need to pay US taxes.

I got my Tiffany engagement ring from Boston (6.25% taxes) and my ring is just over a carat. My fiance saved about 20% (it was $1US to 88 cents CAD when we bought the ring but we used the US account to get it)
