I bought 2 vintage dress watches last week and they finally arrived and I'm ecstatic! One is Omega and one is Longines. Both are vintage watches whose bracelets/bands were customized by a family-run jewellery, with the option to add diamonds around the watch. The bands are both made of 18k white gold.
The reason I'm so excited is because when I was first looking at the watches, I asked the seller if the weights of the watches she has described is with or without the movement. She said it was with. I have 2 other vintage Omega and Movado watches that were very similar in size so I knew the weight of the movement. So taking out the movement weight to check it out and calculating just the gold weight I figured out that just the value of the gold content alone compensates for her asking price so I decided to get both watches. Well it comes today and after checking out everything, I realized that what she meant was that the weight she identified was JUST the gold. So I actually bought both watches for $600 below the scrap value of the gold content! So I got the Omega and Longines movement free plus I got the gold for such a low price!
I'm still contemplating if I should keep the Longines or give it to my mom. I find it a bit too small, although it is a dress watch. But the Omega is staying with me...
Now I just have to send it to my jeweller to put in the diamonds around.
