All gold hardware bag owners, how has the gold metal strap and hardware held up with use over time? How quickly does it change color or tarnish?

I'm considering getting the Sweetheart bag but am nervous about the gold strap losing color easily or tarnishing. I've read some posts and comments in general of chanel hardware tarnishing/changing color over time and as the chain on this particular bag is all gold (with no leather interwoven), was curious if any current owners of the bag can speak to how wear and tear has been so far.

For those with other bags, also curious to hear how the ghw chain or hardware has held up over the years on your bags. I've also been eyeing the classic flap with ghw in the boutiques but have also been wondering about the same problem.

How long did it take on average for the colour to wear off? Are they all completely silver now?

My gold hardware mainly wears off where the strap is attached and where I open and close the bag on the inside. It took about a year with consistent everyday wear to wear off that quickly.

Took about a year to slowly wear off. Its not completely silver colour, its lighter gold colour (than it just bought) with silver underneath.

Thank you. That's helpful. Are you more careful with ghw bags compared to shw as a result? And has anyone tried to get the gold re-done or is it not worth the hassle as it'll keep turning back silver after consistent use in the same spots?

Mine started to turn slightly lighter within the same year but no futher major color changes yet

Never tarnished. I’ve had my flap since 2017. Last year I noticed the slightest rub off of the gold on the front lock.

I have several gold hardware bags from Chanel. One of my classic flaps is perfect after years of some use (I prefer silver HW and do not ware gold HW bags too often). The other classic flap started tarnishing all over within the first year. I sold it. My sister in law wares her 19 with gold turn lock regularly and the turn lock has lost some color, but it’s not terrible. She was using it several times a week for the past two years.

From the bags I have had, Newly made ones gold plate worn off faster than older ones, this also applies to some of LV bags too, I only can guess the newer ones have thinner layer gold plated than older ones, such as say, older ones dipped in solution for 25 secs, newear ones dipped for 15 seconds

I haven’t had this issue with the classics, but the strap on my boy has some wear. Unlike the classics, the gold strap is constantly sliding through the O rings. There’s nothing to keep it in place.

Thanks. Yes I think the Sweetheart is slightly similar as it also has loops or o rings. Is it only on certain parts of the chain and how noticeable is the wear from far vs looking super closely?
