That was a great article. Who knew he was into whales? hehe.
What did you all think of this part?

Tabloid followers will be aware of the widely reported news that Skarsgård and Bosworth are romantically involved. (When asked about the relationship, he shuts down, smile disappearing, with a completeness and efficiency that could only come from growing up in the public eye. "My father always kept the family out of the press," he says later, almost apologetic.)

I think in retrospect he will regret the way that he approaches that. He tries to emulate his dad, which is admirable because they were protected by Stellan in that way as much as possible, but I don't think he realizes the gravity of this being a different time...and his being a completely different type of actor. Stellan was more of a serious character actor when he made it big here and Alex has been a sex drenched sex pot. He appeals to a totally different type of audience...it requires a different kind of approach. Stellan's approach is also different because Alex's mother wasn't an actress and garnered much less public interest. Where Stellan's refusal to acknowledge or discuss family or private life seems dignified...Alex appears to the modern media to be grumpy and unhappy about it. We all know that public opinion affects success as much as acting ability...and I think Alex might be unpleasantly surprised when and if Hollywood forgets that he is the shiniest of marbles, not because he isn't good enough, but because his relationship and his reaction to it sours the public perception of him.

Also, thanks to whoever posted the article and thanks Santress for pics.

This is an exceptional post!!:tup::yes::goodpost::goodpost::goodpost:

Couldn't have said it better. :goodpost: :w00t: Exactly my thoughts. That's why I always say he should re-think his approach with the whole media attention and how he handles it. It's a different time from when he grew up and now.

I just had to laugh when reading this part of the article again.

That hopeful euphemism does nothing to rouse the kids flopped sullenly throughout the cabin or appease their pissed-off parents, but it makes Skarsgård spontaneously cackle. “That’s great! ‘Bird activity.’ Look,” he points at a seagull. “More bird activity!”

I had to think "Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near just like me, they long to be close to you."

First, thanks for the pics Santress and VampFan for the article post, what a great way to start the day...

Agree with this post as well - also because honestly, Stellan did indeed expose his family in his interviews, which is to be expected because he was married and had children. Not dating a fellow actor who is busy using his name and image to further their own career. Totally different situation. Especially compounded by the tabloid nature of this particular relationship and the attention the two of them have drawn to it by hyping the attention and not indeed just "being" and being private about it. I agree re the shiny marble comment - quite honestly, he is playing into the game that is Hollywood and I'm glad to see he's got a glimmer of understanding that he's not playing the right game here. His work needs to speak for him. And needless to say, there's a whole pyschological examination on the dynamic with Stellan for sure that could take up forever in unpacking.

Overall, I thought this was a good interview for him - definitely much more substantive and successful for proving his depth than the Rolling Stone piece was. And I love how excited he can get about his work. At the heart of it, that's what I liked about him in the first place, so hopefully this really gets him the right kind of visibility. and yes, I'll take all the eye porn he can give us...:graucho:

I agree with you, CA.

Who is he keeping out of the press? A woman that clearly loves pap attention and publicity? His statement makes no sense. Once again, he should stick with "no comment" and leave it at that.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the article, pictures ... and love the video, BB.

I have come to think Alex's use of the "Stellan Family Privacy Rule" is a bit of a contrivance on his part. It seems the "only" time he ever uses it is to avoid questions about the Clinger. He doesn't have any problems being photographed with family, talking about family (granny likes to drink), and his family doesn't have problems being photographed together. Perhaps it's just because he and Beige are both famous and he's being doubly private in this regard, I don't know (or care). I just know what I see, and it looks like Papa Skars was no hermit and had pictures taken with his then-wife and kids plenty of times. Gustaf refers to and gets pictures taken with his gf as well as with the family, so he apparently is unaware of the Stellan Family Privacy Rule. In any event, maybe that's why it always rings a bit false with me. And, I do appreciate that, overall, the family seems very good at trying to keep family life private as possible.

("She cried every day and Alex comforted her") Work it, girlie!!!:rolleyes:

And thanks to all who posted the pictures and the article. They were great!!!!

when someone asks me about a person I care deeply about, and I am dating him on the sly, I get a slight smile on my face, and thensay something to indicate I don't want to talk about it. he has no physicals tells, which is unusual. However he seems to think of her as family.

GQ’s new coverboy is the lovely Alexander Skarsgard, who manages to get my heart pumping with every photo I see of him. The only other celebrity that does that for me is Matt Damon, and he’s like the sweet longterm boyfriend you know will be there while Alex is the new fling with a sense of mystery and possibility. You haven’t had to wash his clothes or pick up after him yet and it’s all about the sex. I’m hearing his Eric voice in my head now.
Getting back to reality we have these inspirational 2D images of Mr. Skarsgard, along with a very cute interview. I really love what he said about how nice it is when people ask you about your day! I’ve lived overseas for five years, in Switzerland and Germany, and it’s amazing what you take for granted about American culture. Some Europeans thinks it’s superficial to ask people how they’re doing and not really expect an honest answer, but when no one asks you there’s this emptiness to your day if you’re used to hearing it. I swear I was almost crying the first few days I was back in the US last year after almost a year away. Everyone was so damn nice to me that I wanted to give them all a hug.
Alex also jokes about how his famous family will never do a reality show. You know that his insect thin girlfriend would be up for it though, if only to drape her bony appendages around him in every scene.
Skarsgård on the love scenes with Anna Paquin - who is married to their True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer:
“It’s really clear to Steve and to everybody else what the deal is—which is that Anna is like a sister to me… Those love scenes take quite a bit of acting, actually. A lot of acting.”
…on why he decided to join the Swedish military:
“It was my way of going off into the unknown,” he says. “I didn’t want to just be somebody’s son.”
…on LA versus his native country:
“You walk into the coffee shop, and the girl asks how your day is. When I first moved here, I loved that. I know it’s shallow and superficial and she doesn’t give a f*ck about my day, but I still like it,” he says. Sweden, by contrast, is more reserved. “It’s difficult to get to know a Swede. But once you do, you’re in,” he says. And there’s a stronger sense of boundaries. “You’re never going to see a television show The Skarsgårds.”
…on his famous father, actor Stellan Skarsgård:
“I don’t think I came to acting to compete with my father. But, you know, he wasn’t around as much as normal dads, and seeing his passion…Maybe it was a way to get his attention… I mean, if anything, we’re trying to take care of him. He’s over the hill.”
Stellan on Alex and his brothers:
“Of course I’m threatened,” he says of his sons. “They’re younger, they’re better-looking, and they’re all trying to kill me.”

There’s more on GQ’s website, including this little blurb with his response to a question about his relationship with Kate Bosworth. “When asked about the relationship, he shuts down, smile disappearing, with a completeness and efficiency that could only come from growing up in the public eye. ‘My father always kept the family out of the press,’ he says later, almost apologetic.” He didn’t even say “she’s a great actress,” or “I enjoyed working with her
Kate and Alex’s movie Straw Dogs is coming out in September, and the trailer has been released. We linked over to it on Lainey yesterday and it just looks so cheesy. It’s a thriller where Alex plays the leader of a redneck gang who go after Kate’s character and her new husband - played by the guy from Hop! I couldn’t get over the fact that it was the doofy guy from Hop, James Marsden. (I just looked him up.)
Here’s the trailer. It’s got some violence and scary stuff toward the end and I have to admit that it creeped me out. Alex looks really good in it. He’s menacing as hell.

GQ also has a slideshow with Alex on their website and my mouth was hanging open the whole time. These photos are like a mini vacation.
