Air-lines/Gaps in M.O.P. Alhambra Jewellery - Unavoidable?

i Have them on my pendant and 5 motif bracelet but when I call initially last year after my after service of taking some links off my bracelet and extending chain on my pendants so they fit me better; customer service said it’s normal to have a slight air gap. Today when I wipe my pendant after taking it off, I notice the stone slightly wiggle/move up a bit.

Checked my bracelet to see and only a tinny tiny bit if I do wipe up and down motion.

Am I crazy or what? I wish I push for the issue to be solved during last year

My bracelet passed 1 year mark and my pendant one year mark is coming up on the 15th of this month.

Need to say I’m very careful and take very good care of them both. Only worn my bracelet a handful of time and my pendant just a few time more compared to the bracelet. Ughh! Appreciate any help I can get. I emailed van cleef customer service about and texted the SA I met in my local boutique when inquiry about earrings today about how I would like to call tomorrow afternoon to ask some questions. It’s already 9pm when I texted him just wanted let him know I would like to call and he reply shortly after saying yes. What is amazing what a dedicated worker! The location is a smaller flagship compared to another one 10 - 15 mins walking distance from each and I’m so grateful as the bigger one is much much harder to get in

Any insights please help! I love my piece so much still but it hurts to think the money I spent on them and having to worry about the setting being secure or not. I don’t want to lose a stone and replace it. Make no sense that they need any type of service or replacement of stone after a year and only worn during occasions

Hope someone can help and provide their experiences / insight

I did the service in nyc 5th Ave

I can’t say I didn’t see the gap prior to it as I don’t 💯 recall shining it toward the light and see the gaps. I was so in love wore it maybe 2 times each before I made an appointment with the 5th Ave asking for help as bracelet was too big and necklace a little short for when I wear sweaters or similar style clothes during cooler weather.

My brother helped me get my bracelet when he went to get my sister in law a sweet size earrings at van cleef that she was in love with so it was under his name and phone number while the pendant is under mine.

This is making me worry about even getting a vca earrings especially anything with mop or delicate stones.

Sorry I got confused by the texts with your SA… Did you already take your pieces back to have them examined by the SA, to see if the wiggling you see is okay? That would be my next step.

Hi sorry for the confusion. No, not yet.

I made an appointment this this weekend to bring back to 5th ave for them to check. I spoke to 2 SA on the phone yesturday and they both said the airgaps are normal because they are handmade but moving they need to check.

5th ave SA said she have a mother of pearl piece and it does move a little because of how delicate they are while another SA at a different location said he will let me compare with another pendant / bracelet so I’m more comfortable and if i feel the need of it having it sent out for service he will do so.

I think ill go to 5th first hear what they have to say and then text the other SA who offer to show me pieces to compared to see what are the best options.

I guess this bother me a little more because my sister in law purchased a MOP pendant and I don’t see any airgap like mine. She also had it a few months longer than I did. Maybe her is even more minor than mine? Idk I did bring up that concern to the 5th Ave

I wouldn’t worry about air gaps. No one can see them and they’re functional… if the wiggling is a problem however your SA should be able to check.
Thank you, I’ll definitely check with my SA. Just wanted to make sure nothings wrong as I’m taking good care of my creations as they are in a way investment and of course for our joy of wearing.

I wish SA teach us more about each piece when we purchase them we know what to expect.

With MOP, I was told not to even wipe the motif. Just let the oil of your skin moisturize it. Also, do not store them. Let the motif breathe in an airy area otherwise the motif will shrink. The air gaps are normal, but a loosened or moving motif is not. Seems like a prong needs tightening. The SA will definitely let you know what they can do for you.

I’ve had mine for years, still iridescent as ever with colors of green and pink/red. Not matte white that I see in person with other owners. And yes, don’t get it wet, have it touch lotion, perfume or sunscreen. The natural oil from your skin is fine. That’s what makes pearls so special. It gets better or lustrous with use. The late Queen Elizabeth loved her pearls.

Thank you for sharing your experience its good to know that I don have to wipe to as frequency. I baby it too much and been wiping after each wear or after a few wears. I’ll speed it out more and only wipe when I notice it have some dust or something. Thank you!

I just visit 5th Ave and looked at another pendant it also have airgap but not as much as mine, mine is slightly more noticeable when in the light. The SA told me slight movement is normal when the pearl is being wiped and said mine is in good condition. The replacement of vintage size pearl is $240 compared to what I heard $200 a year - 2 years ago

Going to stop by Madison too once my SA get back to me if there is any time today just to triple check.

Update: my SA was off but another SA was able to look at my pendant. SheSaid it is in great condition and drastic temperature such as if it's too hot outside or it so cold like how it is right now in nyc 30 degree can cause to expand or “shrink”. It is normal for the stone to be able to expand or even “shrink” a little with in the setting so it doesn't crack.

She said some customer only notice stone need replacing after 5 years five if they don't always take it off for shower. Often it last longer.

Dullness is usually the sign and if gently press and the stone life or goes down the setting means something is off and need service
