Hello, I just received my first piece of V.C.A. jewellery for Christmas - firstly thank you to all of you here who've shared your lovely pictures and information which helped me choose what to get!
I picked out a Magic Alhambra pendant in the mother-of-pearl with white gold and it's so pretty, but I am having doubts about it - one specific issue actually. I was hoping that some of you here might be able to advise me please?
I noticed gaps (I think they're called "air-lines?") between the stone and the setting. The SA (who was very nice and helpful) assured me they were normal, and all the Alhambra motifs would have these gaps, especially in this size, so I went ahead and got it.
But then I looked on here and it doesn't seem that common. The only posts I could find here were people saying they would return a piece with these gaps, and in all the photos I can find online there are no visible gaps.
So I went back and looked at two more of the same pendant, they had the same gaps as mine.
The SA said that it's partly because of the mother-of-pearl - because it's more delicate than the other stones it needs a gap between the stone and the setting, or else the pressure from the setting will be harmful to it.
And also because mine is the Magic size the metal beads around the outside are bigger, so they don't fit so closely with the stone.
I was kind of reassured but the posts I've read here and the photos I've seen are still bothering me. I don't want to be overly picky, it's just quite a special (and expensive!) thing not to get it right.
Please could you let me know if it's true that you can't get a mother-of-pearl Alhambra piece without the air-lines? Especially if you have something in the Magic size like mine. I'd be really grateful for feedback.
Thank you so much in advance!

Here are some pictures, sorry they're not very good - it's pretty much impossible to get pictures which show the gaps properly, and I'm wondering if that's partly why I can't see them in any photos online!

Hmmm. I’m not sure what you mean by gaps. Here is a photo of my white MOP - I think it looks the same.

If you are not comfortable with it, I would return. However I love my necklace - it goes with everything and instantly adds class to every outfit!

Good luck!

This is very common and nothing to worry about... I have the Magic bracelet and the Magic Pendant in black onyx and in MOP and my SA at VCA NYC Fifth Ave... Mr. Yvan assured me. You will be just fine. enjoy this lovely piece of magic... VCA Magic.

Hi, thanks so much for your reply! :) Your pendant is beautiful! I can't see any gaps on yours though - does yours have ones like this? (Sorry I can't get photos that show it very well.)
I would really like to keep mine, it's such a beautiful design. I just want to make sure it's not a manufacturing flaw, and that there aren't perfect ones out there that I should be looking for!

Oh thank you! :)
So yours have gaps too, between the metal beads and the pearl?

Yes there is a minuscule amount of space between the beads and the MOP but I wouldn’t call it a flaw - it’s normal. I think other threads referencing a ‘gap’ are talking about a ‘noticeable to the naked eye’ type of space. I can’t see yours at all (even though you circled it) so I think you’re fine.

Ah OK thanks! Yes the pictures don't really show it, it is definitely more visible than it looks there. And it's not an equal gap all the way around, it's mostly at the top and bottom and more on one side than the other.
Thank you again!

My Onyx piece has a tiny gap but it doesn't really bother me...It's only visible if you put a light source behind it. Other than that, its invisible to the casual looker. Enjoy your stunning piece!

Oh thank you!

Yep... I didn't notice it when I purchased it at VCA NYC 5th Ave, I was too excited and happy about adding more VCA to my collection... I even wore it out of the store. I got home eventually, and took it off for bath time, and noticed it... I went back the very next day, thinking I was going to get an exchange or money back... when my SA showed me others that are the same way in different places, I felt good. The gaping is because each piece is handmade... not factory production like every other product from various luxury houses. So when cutting the onyx, M.O.P. malachite, etc... it is cut as close to the gold framing of the clover as possible... hence the extreme price for such a dainty piece. I have the VCA Pure single pendant, the VCA Vintage and the VCA Magic pendant all in black onyx... I have the VCA Magic bracelet that consists of M.O.P., Grey M.O.P, black onyx... All yellow gold. I double wrap the long necklace of the VCA Magic necklace to make it about a 22 inch drop... I am thinking about getting the VCA Magic white M.O.P. and let it hang long... hope it doesn't snag on anything silly, like the end of the handle of a shopping cart at the Supermarket or doing anything routine... I wear my VCA everywhere and all the time. Oh... I am a man that loves and wears VCA. You can rest assured knowing that your VCA Magic is just perfect with all it's inperfections.

This is very normal and quite common. I have a few on my 20 motif MOP necklace and my 5 motif bracelet. It does not bother me at all.

Oh, I also have some small air lines around the motif of my magic letterwood necklace.

Some have quite substantial air lines and I could understand how that would be bothersome, I think yours appear rather minor and quite expected for this line.

Your necklace is beautiful, please enjoy it.

I didn't notice those air gaps on my Sèvres porcelain pendant until I got back home. I took it to my SA and she was surprised to see the air gaps and made a comment like "why would Vendôme boutique sell a piece like that to a client". It was sent for repair and it looks fine now. I will take pics for you when I get home.

That's really interesting, I am very curious to see what your necklace looked like. I just looked at my necklaces again, the air lines are so subtle (I have very few) and only show when held up to light.

OP, if it bothers you, I wouldn't settle, you should consider asking if it can be repaired or wait for the one you feel most comfortable with. I tried to take a photo for you, but my airlines are just too subtle to capture - oh and I'm a horrible photographer!!
