Looks beautiful!! enjoy

Beautiful! Enjoy!

Really really nice!

Thanks guys! :D No one in my Real Life enjoys jewelry so it's fun to post and show off here. You can bet I'm enjoying my new ring. Feel like I'm young, carefree, and newly engaged all over again. Trouble is I don't want to use my left hand for anything. Sure didn't have that problem when DH initially gave me the diamond because you know I was in my twenties back then and I rarely did anything. Not if I could help it anyway. :p How life changes when you grow up! Why does that have to happen? Again...thanks for the help and the compliments!

Here are the pictures I promised and then got sidetracked!

Grandmother's engagement ring, damaged from diamond removal.

Her baguettes (the center diamond is in my mother's engagement ring).

And the new ring, made with her old gold from the setting and her diamonds.

Wow, that's really pretty! What a fantastic redo of a sentimental ring!

Got an update! Found a new setting for my engagement ring that I loved. Very similar to my original setting but more substantial. It's a cathedral setting with six white-gold prongs. And here's a photo! I really love it and wish I would have done this years ago. Thanks guys for all the great help and advice! :D

It looks very substantial and terrific on you! Where did you end up getting the new setting from and what did you do with the old one?

So beautiful, I love cathedral settings!!

Thank you! I love cathedral settings too. I know they're supposed to be impractical, catch on things, but oh I love them.

I found the new setting at a very small, artsy, family-owned jewelry store that does mostly custom work. They offered to buy the old setting for the gold, but emotionally I'm not ready to part with it, so for the time being it's in an envelope in my jewelry box. I'm sure I'll sell it for the gold eventually. I'd put a gemstone in it for occasional wear but the prongs are shot. It's funny but I'm already attached to the new ring as much as the old one. It' similar to the ring DH picked out, but more substantial. And the diamond, which is small but very nice, seems to be shown to better advantage in this much-nicer setting. Like an upgrade, but not. I wish I would have done this years ago.
