After months "undercover" in the replica trade community, I can finally detail...

I have no doubt that some sketchy sh!t goes down here.
And that questionable products change hands between some members.
But, as folks said long before instagram sellers, "Caveat emptor."

I also question any random entity who states, "I'm a journalist," 3 times in same post. Then wishes to conclude a serious "investigative story," by polling the faceless world of usernames here. As valid sources.
We all could be 12 year old boys, pretending to be adult females with hermes bags. Or llamas who type really well. Who knows?

Seems weird. But, then, so much does in this world.:rolleyes:
I put my right hand up and swear that I am not a llama, haha! Now if you ask me if I'm a white pitbull mix, that's a different story :angel:

I think it's illegal here in the EU but I'm not sure. I googled this and funnily enough the third hit was this forum on Reddit you're talking about, asking if it was safe to travel to Europe with replicas :rolleyes:

I wish the designer brands would do more themselves to stop the replicas. And I really hope this tPF:er is not authenticating here :sad:
In Italy it is illegal to purchase counterfeits, and there was a tourist who was convicted to pay 10k€ for buying fake Chanel sunglasses. However in the rest of Europe (I think so) it is illegal to trade replica goods but you may purchase for your own personal "need".

Why the designer brands don´t do more to stop the replicas? Because a certain percentage of the customers of fake goods will become customers of the authentic goods. At least this is was research suggests/found out, here is the link to a very interesting PhD paper on this issue:

Aren't the owners of Reddit known to public anyway? So the founder of RepLadies are different from the Reddit owners? Sorry, not familiar with the world of Reddit. :smile:

But anyway, this is a strange thread. I'd expect an investigative journalist not to volunteer that he is an investigative journalist while doing investigation. But that's just me. Or maybe I'm not understanding the posts correctly.

I probably need coffee. :sleepy::sleepy::sleepy:

And some popcorn. :P:amuse::P

I've heard about this before on here but didn't know about this paper, thank you. It's discouraging and has rather the opposite effect on me. I'm a bit fatigued with some aspects of luxury consuming anyway and this in our faces replica business is not helping.

This thread start was just weird btw. As an appreciator generally of a good conspiracy theory, it was like the OP just wanted to discredit tPF and plant some thoughts of doubt concerning its credibility, all the while pushing for the Reddit group? There's obviously a lot at stake with replicas :sad:

Personally, I'd rather look to somewhere like Etsy for bags, or no handbag at all, than a replica.

It’s my belief this thread was started to publicise where to find information about replica bags to tpf members. And I don’t understand why it’s deemed ok to discuss this (and the thread’s been moved to the “correct” forum) and not shilling activity on eBay, (several threads about which were all deleted).

I find it odd no one here has heard of that subreddit. I've been a tpf member for a decade now (almost), and knew of the existence of r/repladies.

My SO showed it to me and I take a quick peek now and then to see what's changed in the world of fakes.

Do I think OP is genuine? Not at all. Am I surprised, given what I've seen in that subreddit? Not at all.
