Ok, dear friends: I'm searching for a small bag that can just hold essentials: iphone 13 pro max, H cardholder, keys, sunnies, hand sanitizer. I have tried a Bottega Veneta cassette bag- I like that the strap is adjustable but I don't like the fact that it can't be removed. So, if for the purposes above, you had to choose between an Hermes Evelyne TPM or a Loewe Puzzle Mini, which would you choose and why?

I have not yet played with either of these (I have much experience with larger puzzles and evelynes, just not these smaller sizes). For those of you who have/had both, are the cross body straps the same length or is one shorter?

Color aspirations for both bags will be a light warm neutral w/gold HW, ideally (for Loewe: sand with gold HW and for Evelyne: trench/biscuit/chai...maybe as dark as etoupe, with gold HW, ideally. Ideal leathers will be grained, so togo for the H and the grained calfskin for the puzzle).

I know many puzzles are made by hand- are the minis too? Not sure. Thanks for your thoughts!

I posted between these two bags here post #7 (including strap length :) unless you use a mini case for sunnies ( I use the valextra eye case, the puzzle will hold more. BC of its top handle, the mini puzzle is also more versatile. I believe both bags are machine stitched, not hand sewn. I voted puzzle, though I own and use both. (I have one mini puzzle in off white pebbled leather and two evelyn TPMs, one etain, one blue/black felt) For travel, the puzzle is a bit more secure bc of the zipper under the thin leather flap

ETA : My original posts may give the impression that I don’t care for the evelyn, but it’s more accurate to say that the Pm is no longer my style. I do use the TPM quite a bit for quick errands, like going to Whole Foods. It’s basically an open pocket with a strap, and that’s quite handy. But, the vast majority of my bags are Hermes, so perhaps I love the mini puzzle bc it’s a user friendly novelty. In format, the mini puzzle may be closer to the mini lindy which I don’t happen to like bc it’s less pliable and sticks out more. The mickey mouse ears on the mini lindy and the smaller opening also rub me the wrong way, but that’s JMO. I am also not a fan of the larger puzzles. They are less flexible, stuffer, heavier, and not as space efficient.

Post 3 here, shows what they fit (basically what you carry) plus my iPhone 12 pro (now 14)

This is wonderful. Thanks for your, as always, erudite and wise comments. I have an iphone 13 pro max- will that big phone fit into the puzzle mini? According to the measurements it should, but what works in reality is often different from what is on paper. I especially love your point that the mini can hold more than the TPM. I love open top totes but I love being able to carry a bag in more than 1 way just as much, so your comments about that versatility w/the mini is also valuable.

I think so? I would try it to be certain bc the opening is a bit shorter. This isn’t as much of a hindrance when traveling bc it makes one feel more secure.

Post 1735 references an iPhone pro max into a mini puzzle, but it doesn’t specific which pro max lol

Post 11208 here specifies a 12 pro max fits into a TPM

Also, I carry the mini puzzle for evening without the crossbody strap. The top handle is also useful with a clipa bag hook to hook onto a table etc. in pebbled leather, the mini puzzle can go through some rain or snow and can be smushed flat, but so can the tpm.

@Hermezzy
Realized DH has an iPhone 14 pro max. With my dior accordion card case, the puzzle has a bit more room to spare
If you only carry a calvi, both bags would work, but I need that little bit of extra for the valextra eye glass case
I do need to angle it into the mini puzzle opening; took one second longer than sliding it into the TPM
And there is a bit of rearranging. My regular 14 pro iPhone has an easier time of it. HTH

This is absolutely fantastic. I can't thank you enough, dear @880 ! You are such a source of sage advice and kind words on here. Based on the poll results and your pictures and words I've ordered the puzzle mini. I can't wait to see how it is! I'm 5'9" so I'm especially curious to see where the bag hits on my body, esp when worn crossbody. I don't like crossbody bags that hit too low, and when I tried the Bottega Veneta cassette bag I found that I adjusted the strap so the bag hit on the side of my ribs- that was what looked and felt the best. I have a feeling the strap on the puzzle mini might wind up w/the bag hitting me lower but I've seen youtube videos of people who tied the strap in knots a few times to make it shorter, although I wonder what kind of long-term damage that could cause. It does look good, at least.

@880 the other issue is that I was able to find a puzzle mini in sand immediately. My Hermes SA hasn't been able to track down a comparable evelyne TPM (color/HW color/strap color) and the prices on the secondary market for TPM evelynes right now are absolutely ridiculous. I am NOT going to pay $1000-2000 above retail price for one of those bags.

Adding my two cents here. I have the 7RP insert for my Evelyne TPM and find that it holds everything I need to carry, and that with the insert everything is easily accessed. I don't have the puzzle mini, so I can't comment on it.

My Samsung Note 10+ and my new S23 Ultra both fit in my mini puzzle and evie tpm. You can't overstuff the mini puzzle. I simply angle it in, and it fits fine. HTH!
Thank you. I've been eyeing a puzzle mini for months. I watched so many "what fits in my bag" YouTube videos but all of them had iphones and thought my phone wouldn't fit. I have a s23 ultra and I'm so excited it fits, going to pull the plug and get a mini.
