Advice re: buyer’s remorse

There are some consignment stores/websites that let you sell them a bag for store credit instead of cash, and they give a bit more store credit than what the amount in cash would have been. I think Luxury Promise may do this.

I made the same mistake nearly 10 years ago. It was a black lambskin DF jumbo in ghw only used it twice in 3 years cos the ghw and the weight of the bag was too heavy for me. Then a friend was thinking to sell her black jumbo in caviar, shw and SF which was bought in 2009 and in very good condition. She liked mine so we exchanged our bags and after 6 years, I still got it and been using it. Love the shw, caviar and the single flap.

I know HW can be difficult to decide for some people. Although I am a silver HW person myself, I do find gold HW to be gorgeous and I have some bags with gold HW. Please do not kick yourself or talk yourself down for purchasing this absolute stunner. Just stop for a moment to think and remember what made you chose gold hardware in the first place so you can appreciate its beauty. Also do an online search for photos of street style of bags with gold hardware to inspire yourself for some ideas of outfits that you will love and look great specifically with bag with gold HW. Best of luck to you.

I had buyers remorse over a WOC. I hated it after I got home but couldn’t return as it was an airport purchase. I felt so bad for spending so much money on a bag I wasn’t so keen on just because it was duty free. Now it’s my favorite bag…? And I’ve worn it sooo many times

Don’t be too hard on yourself, you picked a nice bag. Give it a try, it might just work out. If not, I agree with others that it’s better to sell (even if at a loss) and get the bag you genuinely will love.

I think the advice you have received above is spot on. For what it’s worth, I have cycled through hardware preferences multiple times in my life, some years preferring gold, other years preferring silver. I can’t really point to any major triggers for the shifts in my preference but I know I’ve done it. So if you are anything like me, you might actually prefer the gold someday, and might kick yourself for releasing your bag. I have had bags sit in my closet for years, unused, only to become my most carried bags thereafter.

So I think it all comes down to economics. Here is my synopsis of the above posts on your best options:

1. SWAP: If you can do a straight swap, as @Roz2019 was able to do (love that story…how serendipitous!), then I think it makes sense to go for it and get what you love today. You can always try to swap again if your taste shifts down the road.

2. KEEP: If you aren’t lucky enough to work out a swap and instead just try to sell it through fashionphile, TRR or any of the other outlets, you will inevitably take a huge loss (probably only getting $4-$5k for your $10k bag), you may regret taking that huge loss, especially if your tastes change down the road, as mine have. If you can afford to keep this bag and do as @Ruby5 did and incorporate your current bag into a larger handbag collection, filling the silver hardware void with other beautiful SHW bags, that could be the very best outcome. You never know, your GHW Jumbo might become your favorite at some point in the future.

3. SELL: If you get a pit in your stomach every time you even just look at the bag, living with that sort of regret can be rather unpleasant and keeping the bag in your possession may only serve as a sad reminder of that regret. So if swapping or adding other SHW bags isn’t an option (or that simply won’t satisfy your particular lust for a jumbo with SHW), then as many have said, it’s best to just rip off the bandaid, sell the bag, buy what you will use today and try your very best to never look back.

We’ve all been there. Good luck with your decision. Sending you a big hug no matter what you decide ❤️

+1

I have the same bag for 9 years now and I had the same feeling here and there. I had a hard time to choose between silver and gold in the Store. But, after some time, I just said to myself that I am not allowed to overthink this choice any more. I made a decision, it’s just a beautiful bag and a Hardware color. I was annoyed from myself and started to use and love the bag, regardless of the hardware.

Well, over the time there were still some situations when I saw a beautiful, so cool and fresh looking Jumbo that I admired it. And that’s okay. But I also admire other gold HW jumbos worn and styled by amazing owners.

Give it some time and if you still feel that you will not use the GHW bag, why not have the hardware polished to silver? Where I am, there are bag spas that do hardware colour changes quite easily... It will affect the resale (if you plan to sell it), but I am assuming you bought it to wear and enjoy so you could consider this option...
Hi! I am wanting to get my silver hardware change to gold, could you tell me which spa does this?

I was wondering what you would do if you realized you had purchased a bag only to find you regretted the hardware color months later. I got a caviar jumbo with ghw from the boutique a few months ago but after using it once, it was clear the gold isn’t really me, therefore I have not worn it since. Opinions? Advice? Part of me feels like I should sell and purchase a preloved one with shw in excellent condition but I know how hard it is to sell off a jumbo for a decent price. Or, look in to finding someone to trade with on a Chanel group but that sounds complex. Tbh, I will likely do nothing except kick myself in the bum .
I have the same problem. I bough a medium classic flap in silver but months later I changed my mind and wanted a gold hardware. Im also not a risk taker so even if I decide to sell my bag i dont know hows that gonna go. It has been stressing me out lately

I went through different hardware preferences for my bags over the years. I always wanted a silver hardware but ended up buying gold for my medium classic flap (it grew on me a lot and when I tried it in the store I just said yes). It’s a classic combination.

Prior to the above purchase, I owned a black WOC with silver hardware and a Dior bag with silver hardware too. I would suggest keep the bag and buy something else later with your preferences. Having both options really works for me when I want to change up looks

Hope this helps!

I agree with many of the opinions here.
I have changed my mind so many times about styles and hardware over the years and these days I use silver HW with cooler colors and gold HW when wearing warmer shades, it works well that way... Sometimes I will even wear gold hardware with a denim jacket that has copper buttons and it will look great.
I say keep it if possible...you can always sell it later.

I dislike matchy bag hardware with clothes I wear. Too much work for my brain cells :p

Ghw can look more dressy than SHW. I’ve learnt to wear ghw bag with everything (casual or not so casual).

But if after giving yourself more time and you still don’t love it, I think selling it always is a good choice despite losing $. What is something so expensive but not worn nor worn enough or doesn’t make your heart sing?
