Advice on a spring bag

I am trying to decide on a light colored spring bag. I just purchased the silver/ecru Preston from Macy's with the 25/20 discount. However, my concern is I much prefer shoulder bags to satchels and despite the fact that I love the look of this bag, I am not sure that I would use it frequently. I love the look of the Madison hobo but there aren't any spring/summer colors with silver hardware currently. The Avery drawstring in silver/pearl on coach factory today looks pretty also but may be too small. I have also considered the ivory highrise but haven't seen it in person and worry it would be too small as I like the ability to carry a magazine or ipad or extra snacks for my son.

Any advice or pros/cons on these bags or any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

We must have similar taste, i also prefer shoulder bags with silver HW. I am looking for a summer bag too, and have looked at all the same bags!
Did you see the Avery hobo on FOS? It comes in the silver/pearl also. There is a small and large size. I've seen them IRL and they are nice. They are just a little too big for me, but sounds like you prefer a bag that's a bit bigger.
I am hoping they will start to ramp up the spring/summer releases. IIRC, last summer FOS had quite a few summer styles that I liked. FP seems to be going in a more formal direction.

Yes, I saw the hobo but have a bit of a legacy duffle addiction (cobalt, cognac, grey pebbled, and fuschia) so am trying for something a little different! I love that white studded duffle that was on the stage site but worry about the studs coming off and it being a little too trendy for my taste. I am trying to get out of my duffle comfort zone! :)

The Avery drawstring is a good size bag...maybe just a smidge smaller than the Madison Hobo (I own one of each). I'd say the Hobo is wider side to side, but the drawstring may be deeper from front to back. The drawstring is super smooshy and comfortable on the shoulder. I have it in Rose but it matches nothing I own so I'm hoping to replace it with one in Slate or Indigo. I absolutely love the size, shape, and feel of the bag.

That said, the Madison Hobo is awesome as well. I'm with you on silver hardware only...I have it in black with silver and wish some of the new colors had silver!

Thank you for the information on the drawstring. I love that it has the extra link to allow the short strap to fold down out of the way when worn crossbody. I think the indigo color looks gorgeous online too. Have you seen it in person?

I would be all over a white, ecru, parchment, or pale lemon in that hobo if it had silver hardware! I wish coach would offer all the colors with a choice of hardware as there are some of us who have strong preferences both ways. They would probably sell a lot more bags! I was talking to the SA at Macy's the other night and she said lots of people came in wanting silver hardware.

Just a comment about hardware (I like all colors: silver, brass, antique, gold, rosegold, gunmetal, etc.) if they go well with the bag; but I understand that many TPFers have a preference for a single color.

I recently bought a Madison needlepoint wristlet and noticed that the color code on the tag was LI for light gold. It is a much paler shade of gold and far less "brassy" than other gold or brass hardware I have seen on coach items.

I hope that they plan to use light gold more frequently for new bags and especially in coach jewelry and watches.

Just wondering if you might like the hardware if the bag has the LI color code? This pink phoebe in on the factory online sale right now. The final price would be around $240 with free shipping. I'm pretty sure that it has light gold hardware.

Good look with your search for a spring bag!

Edited later to add: The color code for this bag is 24621 B4 PY (brass and peony) so it probably has the more brassy hardware and not light gold, sorry!

My absolute most favorite spring bag is this embellished putty large sophia 16343 in garcia leather with silver hardware, but it is no longer available of course. I bought it at the outlet after the season was over for close to $300 which was about half off of retail.

If you like any of the current spring bags but they are too pricey, you might wait to see if you can get the one you want after it has been deleted. Rather than settle for a bag that you don't love just to have a new spring bag. I know that it isn't fun to wait, but as much as I love this bag, I would never have paid retail price for it - but now I can enjoy it again this spring! :D

Love this! Thanks for all the suggestions. I have found that I don't mind the light gold so much but tend to prefer it with warmer colors. I actually own the fall ocelot (brown) phoebe with light gold hardware and love it. I think the light gold/chestnut combination coach has right now is absolutely beautiful. Even my husband commented on that color in the store the other night! I guess I feel the cooler tones like white look better with the cooler silver hardware though.

I totally agree with you about waiting for the outlet. I have learned so much on this forum and have gotten some great deals at the outlet because of that. I love the detailing and straps on that sophia you posted. I think that is what I miss the most with the current styles is that they are all so plain. Perhaps I will move my hunt to eBay or go check out that Avery drawstring in person!

Thanks again for all the suggestions and photos!

I have seen the Indigo in real life and it's really pretty. Darker than Legacy Cobalt but not as dark as navy....it's like an inky blue.

I've had the hardware color discussion with my favorite Coach SA and she too said that they have people ask for more silver all the time. I wonder why Coach still does the majority in gold/brass? I personally don't like the light gold any more than I like brass...I don't do anything at all in gold tone, including jewelry, etc.

I picked up an Indigo drawstring today and it's a chameleon color. In the car it looks blue, and to my eye it's blue, but the photo I took indoors makes it look purple. It's gorgeous!
