I wonder if it was something like carbon monoxide???

Gene Hackman, the screen actor with iconic roles in The French Connection and Superman, has died. He was 95.

The actor and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead at their home in Santa Fe Summit on Wednesday, reported the Santa Fe New Mexican, citing County Sheriff Adan Mendoza who confirmed to the outlet that the couple had died, along with their dog.

Mendoza added there was no immediate indication of foul play in the deaths, the outlet added. He also did not provide a cause of death or say when the couple might have died.

OMG, this is so sad!! My first thought too was possible carbon monoxide...

Or maybe it was something else. Two of their dogs survived. Police had the gas company come out to make sure it was safe to enter the house.

The situation is fluid. Police are now calling it suspicious.

According to a search warrant, obtained by TMZ, a Santa Fe detective who sought a search warrant wrote in his affidavit, he believes "the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation because the reporting party found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened, deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom, the heater being moved, the pill bottle being opened and pills scattered next to the female, the male decedent being located in a separate room of the residence, and no obvious signs of a gas leak."

So very sad. I’m not suggesting his daughter is suspicious at all…but I found it odd his youngest daughter said she was very close with her father but hadn’t talked to him in months. Your father is 95 and months go by you don’t talk? I was close to my parents and spoke every day.

This is all very sad and scary.

It’s hard to wrap my head around that. I worry about my elderly parents all the time and I check in with them a lot, as do my siblings.

Maybe they weren’t really close, but what else is the daughter going to say to the press? They are children from his first marriage and their parents got divorced when the youngest was college age. There may have been years where they had little contact. I read an article where it sounded like the second wife may have helped reconnect him with his daughters. I haven’t heard anything about the son/brother. Not sure if he is even in contact with his sisters.

It’s a sad story all around. I feel horrible for the dog that died. He was in a dog crate and with what we’re hearing about the length of time before discovery, I wonder if the poor thing starved to death.

it is very very sad. I think that the person on the scene that commented about what likely happened is on point - looks like she passed away suddenly in the bathroom and that is why the pills were all over the bathroom floor and that when gene discovered her it shocked him so badly that he fell/passed out suddenly. and they tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning.

That could be. It also could have occurred the other way around. He may have dropped dead and she went into shock and went into the bathroom and took a bunch of pills. Then there is the issue of the front door being left ajar. Like someone wanted to make it easier to be found.

The toxicology and autopsy results should fill in the blanks.
