Hi ladies and gents, happy new year! I am about to get myself a woc in black ghw and a small classic flap in black ghw or shw. With the recent prices, I cannot justify paying that much for a woc, I don’t mind the price so much two price increases ago, but now is it insane to get a woc brand new?

And also, I was set on getting the black small classic flap in shw but my husband told me that ghw looks much better, now he is telling me black is boring and basic, and that everyone owns one. Come to think of it, most of my friends own the black classic flap in ghw (I live in Hong Kong, and ladies here love their designer bags). I want to get a bag that will last for decades and not get out of season, I also love beige clair but I cannot handle light colored bags just yet. Will it be silly to get the same bag as my friends? Though it is not like we are going to be carrying the same bags when we meet. Or should I get a bag in another color or another style altogether?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Update:

I’ve been to 3 boutiques today, and the black caviar on at least 8 classic flaps and 6-7 wocs look terrible, they are so dry and looked almost matte. It was very ugly when placed beside the mini black woc which has caviar leather with much smaller pebbles and very soft to touch. I don’t think I will be able to buy anything if the black caviar leather are all like this for this season. :(

Black is my fave and always classic. Worry less about what others have and what YOU’LL get the most wear out of!
I have 3 Chanel WoCs, love them! Worth every penny for me because I carry them a lot!
Thanks Swanky. I could not bring myself to buy the caviar woc and classic flap today as I find the caviar leather very very dry and matte and dull looking, I am thinking to either get a lambskin classic woc or a preloved caviar woc with better looking caviar. And I might just wait for the classic flap to be in the caviar that I like.

I think you may try burgundy color, if you are not so sure about black and don’t want to be same with other people. Black can look a bit formal relative to other colors. Although WOC looks lovely, the capacity is also quite limited. You may also consider mini rectangular if you’re into small bags. A lot of color options for mini rectangular as well.

I have the WOC and the classic medium flap, both in black with SHW. I love both and get lots of use out of them. I highly recommend them both. If you can find these bags in a used condition you are happy with, for a price you deem fair, then checking into preowned is a great option. The price increases are really getting out of control. Chanel is getting up there with Hermes but they don't have nearly the same quality in my opinion.

My black classic WoC is lamb and is probably 12 years old, I do t baby it and it’s like new. Highly recommend!!
I asked to see the lambskin display, and it was obviously much more luxurious than the caviar, but there were a lot of scratches on the inside, I know it is a display and lots of people are being “not too gentle” with it, and that’s what I wanted to see, because I want to use it as a daily bag. Does yours also have a lot of noticeable scratches on the inside? I am very tempted. I sold my lambskin woc months ago because I was scared it will look old very soon. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the 17cm mini does not work on me, I find the strap too awkward when carried crossbody as I am large chested. I have yet to see and try the 20cm mini in person as they are always out of stock. I do not have much to carry so I feel the woc would be perfect. Burgundy is a very nice color alternative, I will be going to the boutique again next week to have a look. Thank you.

That is true, I was flabbergasted at the quality of the black caviar I saw in 3 different boutiques yesterday, they all looked and felt like cardboard, so dry and dull. The black caviar classic flaps looked cheap, I was really sad about it as I was so looking forward to buying them. Now I am rethinking my options. My husband was also suggesting to buy Hermes instead.

No, inside looks immaculate. No idea what people do with the display!
