A difference I've noticed in the D&B forum compared to other brands....

is that I don't see a whole lot of 'quality' issues. I frequent other forums on here that have quite a few complaints about the quality of certain bags in the line, the lack of quality in the newer pieces, etc.

Not so much on this forum. Do you thing that D&B has superior quality control or are their products just superior in quality?
I'm curious to see what others think on this subject.

Most of the complaints I see on this forum are in regards to specific bags that aren't working out for one reason or another.....size, weight, color, etc. but not so much the quality. Once exception would be the florentine (if I remember correctly) where many were finding that the textures on the bags varied too much. One portion of the bag might has a lot more texture and other portions were smooth.

I do know that whenever I examine a D&B bag I'm always impressed with the quality!

I never have any quality issues. If there is a "quality" issue, like you said, it's with individual bags, not a line or the brand as a whole. I am an absolute fan of Dooney, I literally do not buy [or accept as gifts] any other contemporary brand.

That's so nice and refreshing to hear ladies! I feel that Dooney does it right!! I'm so impressed with the bags I have, both vintage and new. That's hard to say with some brands, unfortunately.
I feel that with D&B you know that you'll get the quality that you're paying for. Also that it's not over-priced compared to so many other brands out there right now.

I think part of the problem is that if someone is paying over $1000 for a handbag, you expect perfection. When stitches come loose or leather handles start to crack- it's beyond tolerable. Then you have to stress about how to get it repaired, replaced, etc. It's so interesting to me how these Dooney and Bourke handbags compare to the luxury brands in terms of durability and workmanship. I love that my Dooneys can be beautiful workhorses.

That's because the big brands justify the price as due to better quality and the denial shatters when the $1000 price hasn't bought anything that great in the end;)

Absolutely!! There are some brands having some troubles at the moment and their bags aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination.
Makes loving Dooney that much easier!

I do believe Dooneys are superior in quality to other so-called "affordable luxury" brands at the same price point. While I've liked and purchased certain pieces in other lines, none can approach the durability of Dooney.

While I've never owned a so-called "high end" bag (Celine, Ralph Lauren, etc.) I've come across them in stores. Of those I've seen and examined, I believe the leather in the Dooney Alto line is comparable to anything you'd find among brands that cost a grand or more.

Alto, I suspect you're right. Though I've never had the pleasure of seeing IRL an Alto Dooney I'll bet that they're superior in many ways.

Maybe someday.....

Ditto to the 49th power...

+10000000000

There are very cute $1000+ bags, but I promise, I will put my Alto [and Flos for that matter] next to any of them. So many ppl know I have a few Gucci's, and so many have said "let me guess, Gucci" when they see me walk in with one of my Altos and I'm like nope DOONEY BABY!!!!

I said it once, I'll say it a trillion times, you are paying for a name. for ppl who don't know, if I set an Alto next to a Gucci/Louis/Prada etc., they would not be able to tell which is $400 and which is $4000

+++++1!!!!! Somebody stop me!!!!

Could not agree more with what you all are saying. Here's the other thing- some luxury brands raise their prices twice a year so there's a rush to get an already inflated piece before the price increase. It's ridiculous. I'm not playing the game anymore. I love what I have but I would rather buy comparable Dooney pieces that don't stress me out.

I agree Surf, I got caught up for quite awhile on the LV wave but am pretty much over that!
Now I'm setting my sights on Dooney and have the 1975 satchel and the cabbage roses tote bag. Love them both.
I would love to have one of the new drawstring bags (Serena?) as the quality looks great but some have said that they're so stiff.......guess they need to be broken in over time?

Beautiful bags though, like works of art! And half the price of the uber popular Mansur Gavriel bags that are all the rage and have a waiting list!

Another thing that's not lost on me is how NICE the ladies on this particular forum are. Inclusive and welcoming to all. That's so nice!
It's a celebration of both vintage and new Dooneys......I love reading all of the stories of the purchases through the years of your coveted bags. Makes it so much more personal.

It seems to me that those who own Dooney's have an emotional attachment that is so nice to hear.

I agree a million % with what everyone has said. When a person gets that Dooney and uses it and sees and feels that quality first hand it all ends up making sense that you can have a high end quality designer bag without spending over $1000. And I love to see new faces coming to the Dooney forum in hopes that maybe they have seen or noticed or even just want to learn what the rest of us have and what ends up keeping us hooked. Dooney is just quality and they stand behind their bags I use to be the person that would set and think about budgeting to purchase this LV bag or SLG but then I realized what got me into handbags to begin with and that was Dooney and now I compare every bag I look at to a Dooney and nothing else comes close.
