A bag you love to look at and HATE to use ?

I have 2 saint laurent matalasse large envelope bags. Here is a photo I pulled off of the internet. I have the bag in Black with gold HW and rose antic (pink/mauve) with gold HW. The bag is classy and fills a hole in my collection. Now to the problem. I HATE using the bag. The chain clanks. It twists. The bag doesn’t stand upright, it tips over 9/10 Times. The chain gets caught under the flap when I set it down. I can’t force myself to sell it and every time I carry it, I think what a pain in the @ss it is.

What do I do? Have you been in this situation and how did you handle it?

For me a bag has to be functional as well as look nice. I just talked myself out of a beautiful bag I saw on ebay. I has a short handle and a long chain shoulder strap. I really prefer that a bag has primary handles that can go over my shoulder.
So if you are person who has sold bags I'd sell it. It seems you hate carrying it.

So easy: It gets sold, pronto. The wastefulness of keeping money parked in a "functional" object that isn't in fact functional is unacceptable to me.

I agree - get rid of them. If it's not functionally suiting your needs, you're not going to use it and it's taking up space (physically and financially) that could be filled with something else that you love fully.

Agree with everyone else. It's a waste of space. There's plenty of bags on the market that will suit your needs

Hermes Kelly. I have one that was a gift from my grandmother(K25, matte emerald green alligator leather, PHW) and it's so pretty and takes so F***ing long to get in and out of.

There are sooooooo many flap bags with chains that look like that I see no reason you have to keep one that you have so many problems with!
If the design was unique I would tell you keep it, but no way! There’s nothing more annoying than wearing something that everything about it bothers you!
Get rid of it and buy another 2 you can enjoy!

these two... Gucci Dionysus hobo and LV Louise Clutch. Both so pretty but total pains to carry.

The Gucci was very stiff. the shoulder strap worked best but it was odd with the stiff hobo handle. The magnetic closure was very heavy and strong. It was a great size but I worried about wear and tear on the embroidery. It was not an everyday bag, but was too big for special occassions. It simply was a bad purchase.

The Louise, I was just too worried about scratches and the clasp opened out and was awkward. Again, just a bad purchase.

I sold them both. And bought the LV Surene BB. It's great, dressy with the chain, but casual as a crossbody; roomy for everyday, but doesn't compete with a tote. I love it!

Although I know what you mean about opening and closing certain Kellys...
People should keep type of leather and Sellier vs Retourne iin mind before buying them. I love my black Epsom 25 Sellier, but would have probably picked a Retourne in a softer leather had I known about this (you would have to saw my hands off to take my croc away from me though lol).

Even if you haven’t sold bags, don’t let that stop you. Nowadays there are many reputable places that will do the footwork for you. You’ll get less for it, but won’t have to deal with any headaches either.

I’m no expert, but is it ok to keep an alligator bag in a safe? Doesn’t the leather needs to ‘breathe’?
I know people some people keep pearls with water next to it, but not sure if there’s something you should do to keep exotics in perfect shape. I would hate for such a treasure to get ruined! Keep me posted as I would love to know a safe place to keep mine!

Yes on the Kelly! My absolute fav bag to look at but a total PITA to get in and out of.

That said, the bag from your grandmother sounds amazing. Please post a pic!

I love this post. I swear 90% of the time I pick up my Gucci Soho she does the flip. She’s just happier standing on her head. Heaven forbid the zipper isn’t closed. Then every time I pick her up to sell her, she’s so darn soft I forget why she drives me nuts. I should really just let this one go and enjoy it looking good on the Instagrammers.
