I would avoid costume jewellery, as after a while it will look tired. I had the Clic H and I sold it because it just started to look scruffy after a while. Depending on your preference in metal, these diamond station bracelets from Aspinal of London are really beautiful  and very similar to the DBTY by Tiffany. I love Aspinal as it is a British brand.

I also love these earrings from Pravins, they're absolutely beautiful and a great price.

What’s the ethics situation with a Hermes?

Yes I’m looking at entry level pieces, not because I don’t have money, but because this is the budget at this moment in time. So I’m looking at small pieces, belts, sandals/shoes, smaller bags, etc. That sort of thing. When you shop around there’s a lot of nice little pieces available around this price, so I was just looking for some ideas of what everyone would buy if handed this budget.

In terms of saying YSL/Gucci not luxury enough, that’s been read wrong. What I meant is not as luxurious as other brands like Hermes, Chanel etc.

I’m browsing, so when I find something I’ll let y’all know :panic:

Hi everyone,

I’ve some money to spend but can’t decide what to splurge it on. Shortlist is an Hermes Clic H bangle or Hermes Rivoli leather bracelet. I’m looking for something classic and long lasting. Wanted diamond studs but for that budget they’re too small.

I’m open to designers etc, and would love some ideas. This might be fun too

PS it’s a late Xmas present from my husband.

What’s your usual jewellery like?

Edit: sorry I see you’ve already said! For that budget I’d get a Gucci belt (I know you said Gucci isn’t luxe enough but I genuinely get so much use out of my two belts (brass & silver hardware)).

Let us know what you choose! We are excited for you

Opinion - would you say the wide Hermes leather CDC bracelet has had its day?

The CDC bracelet is a decades-old classic, nearing a century (designed in the 30s or 40s) - IMO it's a forever classic. I have a few and I still wear them constantly. I would personally choose it over the Clic H, but you need to choose what you love the most.

You sounds like you want something you can wear outside the home as opposed to, say, a beautiful set of homeware. I think that puts us in jewelry or in Hermès scarves (I wouldn't spend that much on a different brand).
Does branded matter to you? You can easily get your diamond studs in your price range at about .5 carat total weight - not huge but decent size.

Pre-loved branded jewelry is often a very good deal (especially if it's, say, Hermes as opposed to Cartier) - depends on whether you're OK going that route.

Most of all I always say, it should be something that will always make you happy! Think about putting it on each day or seeing it in the mirror :flowers:

in your price range: Hermès shoes: paris loafers
Hermès carre, bc it elevates an outfit immediatly
Hermès earrings will be in your spending range, too

The clic H seems to loose its appearance over time;)
Better choose one of their silver items this for example (the silver pieces are superb! I own some and wear it on a daily basis - which includes showering and sports - and they still do look like brand new)

I love those, too, pretty robust, too

and if you like belts, I'd choose that one

Mauboussin ring?
Tiffany?

I'd always choose Hermès if you'd ask me, but if it had to be Chanel, I'd take an brooch.

Thanks Millivanilli for those suggestions and also everyone else. Some great ideas.

So an update, yesterday I decided to go to my local jewellers and browse what they had but they were closed . They re-open on the 4th Jan so will take a look. I’m thinking a little pair of earrings that may not be studs but smaller which sparkle like mad. We’ll see.

I like the Hermes and or Chanel items. Always wanted a Chanel CC broach. Also I was thinking about those Dior pearl like earrings where the bigger pearl sits behind the ear. Hermes scarves also a good idea, (I’d wear one in my hair). The classic things, you know like these that never date. Also the Hermes belts (but I need to lose a bit of weight first) :yahoo:

It’s like the list of items which every woman should have. I like classic because it never dates. I have some items such as the perfect watch, Chanel ballet flats, and so on. On that list would be diamond studs, Chanel classic flap, diamond cross necklace, quality belt, silk scarf. You get the picture.

I’ll let you know what happens

You need to look at the reports surrounding their leather farms. How they keep the animals and cull them. The videos that have been covertly taken are horrific. It’s totally inexcusable for a supposedly “luxury brand”.

I find it ironic that the Hermes threads are full of people posting cute pictures of koalas etc considering how the company treats ostrich and crocodiles.

@Shula - I think I can totally relate to what you’re after. In my opinion, there are basically two ways to go:

A piece of classic jewelry - like a silver Tiffany or Yurman bracelet as others have mentioned, but this doesn’t seem to really grab you. You mentioned diamond studs and you could do this within your budget if you went with lab diamonds. But only if you’re okay with that, otherwise you’ll always feel like you compromised.

A luxury piece - it sounds like you really want to invest in a signature piece from a luxury brand like Hermes or Chanel. I’ve had CDCs and Kelly Dogs, and found them a bit too wide to comfortably wear on a regular basis. In my opinion the Kelly Double Tour or Rivoli are more comfortable everyday pieces worth the price. Not a Clic H as others have stated. An H scarf is a wonderful classic too…but only if you actually already enjoy wearing scarves! I used to have a ton of H scarves and loved how they elevated any work outfit, but since retiring they look too formal with everyday outfits and I ended up selling them all.

One last idea - how about Hermes silver? I think the Farandole bracelet is an absolute classic - it has loads of presence like their leather bracelets but will go with everything. It screams H but is not obvious like a Clic Clac. I think this is a piece you could enjoy the rest of your life!

As others have posted, I think it’s a classic. Try it though to make sure you lIke the wrapped feeling of a wider piece,of leather. Another poster recommended the double tour and i like that too. IMO a bit more iconic than the rivale Bc of thr kelly closure.

also agree with posts that recommend H silver jewelry!

your initial post expressed your desire for something Hermes. No need to second guess unless you would like to branch out! If you would like to branch out, there are lots and lots of options
