35 Birkin Too Big?

My personal opinion is that it isn't a matter of your size but what type of bag you want. The 30 is like a handbag and the 35 is more of a tote. .....

If you wear a lot of dresses and are "girly" ... go with 30.
If you are more casual and wear jeans and pants a lot ... go with 35.
If you want a bag to go from day to evening ... go with 30
If you want a bag to schlep papers to the office, carry magazines, etc. ... go with 35

I've had both and now only 35s. I am 5'1" ...

I couldn't have said it better too! Both look great makes it even tougher to decide:sweatdrop:

rockerchic did a poll - 30 vs 35 somewhere here - if you do a search it should come up - she is I think your height or thereabouts. I think the poll was pretty evenly divided (she could do either) but a 35 had a more jeans, leather jacket and boots vibe. . .

To Everyone - thank you for all of your input. The bags I'm carrying around as of late is my LV Manhattan GM and the Alma MM Amarante. Both are quite big bags. My husband calls me his "bag lady." :p

That's a great idea about if you're more casual than go with 35 and more dressy go with 30. Very true. I will stick with my 35 and then my next one will be a 30 :yahoo:that's if I'm lucky enough to find one or afford one for that matter!

 Well said, Kallie Girl.

handbaghangover, I am your height, but definitely NOT a skinny person. I favor 30cms as they "fit" me better, but I also have 35cms for when I need a little more bag. I don't carry much, but if you ever need to carry files/mags, etc, you will definitely need the 35cm. 30cms cannot carry a file.

Hey there!
I am still trying to get used to the 35. I love how light the 30 is. Also have JPG and boy are they heavy. I like how you can out a lot of stuff in 35 but it sure gets heavy and it becomes a burden. Maybe I'll develop muscles and get used to them. Oh, I'm 5'4.

I think it's a personal choice, and like what others mentioned, the look you prefer...personally DH thinks I can't do a 35 coz it looks too big on me...perhaps you should check out the stores and see which ones suit you best :smile1:

I'm 5'3" as well but I like both sizes. I know everybody (family, SO) pretty much prefers I go with the 30 cm bc it looks more proportionate on me..but I can't do without the 35 cms though! Soo.. bottom line is, it's really up to you, your look, and your lifestyle! :smile1:

I am 5"2 too and I always thought 35cms are too big for me. Then my daughter became old enough to stuff toys into my bag without me knowing when we go out, and suddenly 30cms are too small (for both of us). So, just before my second child arrives, I ordered three 35cms. I NEED them now. I use my 30cms for work if I don't have to lug documents around, and 35cm when I do and when I go out with my child(ren).

So, I agree with the posts that says, look at your lifestyle and then decide (never say never!) :D

I am 5'3 and the 35 is for me. The Birkin was designed as a daytime carryall/tote and I think the 35 holds much more. I do not like either at night. The bag is casual and not dressy enough for fancy restaurants or parties.

HbH,

the character of a Birkin is that of a large, bulky saddle carrying bag--it should be kinda big/bulky (but not overwhelming)

best to Try B4 U Buy!

also, if u already have a closet full of large bags, maybe a 30cm in a very bright pop color would be nice, or, even a Kellybag, if u r looking to add a nice lady handbag. I generally prefer Birk to be what it wants to be--rough-and-tuble, bulky, at-ease bag.

I agree! Size is a matter of preference. I don't think a 35 is too big at all for your size. I like both sizes and think they fit different uses. For me, a 30 is a better transitional size from day to evening. I can fit all my daily stuff in a 30, but when I need to carry more, I reach for a 35.

I am also 5'4", like you, and slender. I use both my 30 Birkin and 35 Kelly, though my eye needed to adjust more for the 35 and I prefer the look of the
30 on me. But I do use both. It's just a matter of your preference; I think either would be fine.
