My husband gave me a 3 stone diamond anniversary ring for our 5 year anniversary a long time back. The thing is I want the only diamond on my hand to be my engagement/wedding ring because it looks like i'm wearing 2 engagement rings. So I'm thinking about changing the center diamond with a colored gemstone and then repurposing the diamond into a bracelet or necklace. I just need ideas on what kind if stone you would recommend..... My jeweler has shown me amethyst, Swiss blue topaz, emerald and also pink and green topaz. They are all beautiful!!! Help me choose... Or would you just leave the ring alone?

My husband made my engagement ring into a 3 stone ring for a big bday a couple years ago. I did that instead of a trade up because my original diamond had a lot of sentimental value. I did briefly consider doing colored stones on the sides but in the end decided I only like the middle stone to have color. I definitely would of chosen a blue sapphire. I do think emeralds are pretty, but I just love the look of sapphires, especially when centered between two diamonds. Classic, can't go wrong,

My birthstone is sapphire :) Hubby told me i should make it a sapphire. I always wear this ring on my right hand and my wedding rings on my left. Just not sure if I should just leave it alone, or replace the stone. hubby doesn't care either way because he understands why I would want my only diamond to be my wedding rings. I can always repurpose the diamond.

I just thought it looked like I had 2 engagement rings on and thought it would be nice to switch it up. I might leave it as is. The wedding ring diamond is 1 1/2 carats and the 3 stone rings center stone is a little bigger than that. I just thought it would be nice to make that diamond a necklace for mote formal occasions and put some color in the ring. It looks like the majority feels like I should leave it be though ☺

OK- I'm going to buck the trend again and vote for switching it out. I'd pick a gem that is a favorite color. If you plan on wearing the ring almost daily you'll want to stick with one of the harder gems- so sapphires (blue, pink, yellow, purple, yellow, peach- they come in all colors!!)would be a good option. I also like spinels (again many colors!) which are quite sparkly and on the harder side of the mohs scale. Some garnets are quite beautiful, too. Tsavorite garnets, to me, are more beautiful than most emeralds. I recently posted a thread on my Merelani mint garnet ring- beautiful light bluish green- but the garnets are a bit hard to find in the size you're talking about. So what are some of your favorite colors? And if you want to stick with a diamond- how about replacing it with a fancy yellow diamond?

I think this sounds like a great plan especially since your birth stone is sapphire. That diamond size would also make an amazing size pendant so it's like you get two new pieces of jewelry out of this solution, sapphire/diamond ring and a diamond pendant! What shape sapphire are you leaning towards? Round or oval I'm guessing? When it comes to a 3-stone I like it when the center stone is significantly higher rather than flush with the sides.
