I'm glad you kept the older handbag treasures and can enjoy them again.
I've noticed over time that my handbag needs and preference change
and cycle. That's how I justify holding on to so many handbags.
Although in reality I can't see ever using shoulder bags or cross body bags

That is so true about handbags. Bags that were favorites have been replaced by bags I pushed to the back of my closet and are loving once more.
So, how does this ban thing work because I can't seem to get the hang of it.
My current obsession the last six weeks has been shoes. I purchased five pairs and claimed I was done. I just opened an email from Customer Service and they said they had talked with the team and can get me a very expensive (at least to me) pair of sold out shoes.
I feel like I should go for it and THEN start my ban. I'm hopeless!
Please, (pretty please) do not ask the brand, shoe or price...I am too embarrassed.
One thing about handbags is they hold up nicely for years and I could ruin the shoes the first wear.
I think handbags will always be my favorites and digging out an old bag feels like a new treat.
I wonder if I should try to sell a few Alto bags to help pay for the shoes. I have so many, but my secondary sales have been slow. Here is an example: Barbour jacket NWT's $180.00 and listed for $45.00 and hoping to get $40.00 and received a $20.00 offer. I put it back in my closet. I could part with a few Alto bags, but I don't want to give away new or only carried once handbags. Any advice? Try to be kind. I am having a shoe/handbag dilemma.

You’re in the right place. I’ve been having a hard time selling bags I rarely use these days. It’s seems the market is saturated. You may have more luck with Alto since it is a high end line. Patience is important when selling.
I‘ve been a bagaholic for over 20 years. Lots of stalking, purchasing, selling, returning and always chasing and wanting more. The last couple of years I’ve slowed way down. I don’t regret my bag time at all. I haven’t purchased any bags in 2023 but have come very close a couple of times. I want to really love and use what I already have and not make purchases based on temporary feelings if that makes sense.

I just can’t see black right now. They’re beautiful, but all the pretty colors tho…

I was also basing the flo on the size of whatever picture she sends of her current handbag. I want her to have the large but I know that it’s probably too big and heavy for her, being an older lady. So either small or mini. I’m gonna have to ask ma about any arthritis and such. I don’t want to ask any questions myself and ruin the surprise. Whenever my aunt would come up to Chicago, she always left with a vintage coach bag that I had given my mom. My aunt really enjoyed receiving them. I thought it would be a real nice surprise to have a new Dooney and Bourke on her doorstep to unwrap and enjoy. I know she would enjoy a Florentine unlike my mom… SMH.
It's good that you are thinking about your aunt's possible usability issues.
Florentine handbags are heavy....and you do notice it if you have arthritis.

Also think about how your aunt likes to carry a bag... shoulder, hand carry, crossbody.
Having a set of handles for hand carry adds weight to the bag and it's worth it
IF you hand carry the bag. If not, there might be other styles with just the longer straps.
Also, the zipper and fold over style of the Flo satchel can be fussy for someone with
dexterity issues. Even a flap bag is a problem for someone who carries a cane and
has only 1 hand to deal with their handbag. No one realizes what others deal with
because we don't walk in their shoes.

It's great that you are trying to find out what your aunt loves about the bags she
carries now. Then your surprise will be even more special.

What a nice surprise for your aunt. I love black bags in most leathers but in Florentine I prefer the warm shades.

Im not sure how the ban works as I've said in my mind after my labor day haul, I have enough bags.... and then I see 4 bags I could not let go at the price. Had these bags been not been discontinued, and hard to find, I might have resisted purchasing. If it's a rare discontinued bag, the price is right, not a black bag, I'm going to go for it. I do not feel bad I purchased these last 4 bags, because I know I will enjoy each and every one of them, as im sure that you will wear every pair of shoes, look down, wiggle your toes, and smile at your feet in your awesome new shoes. Retail therapy can be so satisfying, especially when you scored a real rare bargain....

If the buyer won't pay the price you ask, I agree put it back in the closet. Someone will want it. and it will sell at the right time. As I'm bag hunting, I don't see many alto bags up for purchase. I would look at what's out there to see if there are many of the one you are trying to sell, and the price they're asking.

As far as shoes go im with you. Sold out and you won't see it again shoes, I say go for it. Then u can sit and wait for the holidays sales to resume purchasing.

Mom said my aunt didn't have arthritis. I've asked mom to covertly inquire about any back and shoulder pain. I really like when a bag can be carried multiple ways, like the satchel. I can really see my aunt carrying a Florentine satchel in the crook of her arm to church and shoulder carrying it to work. there's plenty of time for my mom to find out everything that I want to know. I know that my aunt would not purchase a Florentine bag for herself, as it's expensive.
I know how I feel the I receive a new bag, unwrapping it, smelling it, moving into it, and carrying it around the house giving it a test run with my things inside. I want that for my mom, and I want that for my aunt, because I know they haven't bought themselves a NEW bag in years maybe decades. I know they will enjoy the experience as well as the new bag, as its been way toooooo long.

I am really not a fan of black Florentine either. In my opinion, there were only 2 bags that I've seen that I would consider in black. the Florentine domed buckle satchel and the tilton crossbody. the brown tmoro, and navy are stunning colors and are dark enough to represent black.

I'm sure you aunt will love her gift. You are putting so much love and care into
making it a great choice and a special treat. Sharing what we love and appreciate with
those we love makes the gift even more special.

The beauty with accessories is weight is not a factor. I am still trying to lose the 10 pounds I gained during lockdown. Somehow I thought eating candy was an amusing pastime. Banning sugar from my diet has been easier than a ban on bags and shoes.
It seems like handbags, shoes/boots, scarves ect are good purchases. The thing I find interesting, is brands change, their sales are different and some design years are stronger than others.
I noticed today a D&B Alto bag was $395.00 when I purchasex and the price today is $575.00. I have things I purchased years ago I can't afford to buy now--- (ie years ago LK Bennett was getting ready to go into administration). They had shoes for $48.00 and the new owners (China, I believe) want $410.00 for simple suede court shoes.
There is alot to say about buying colors, the right design and price when you spot a good item.

I agree.... timing is everything. I hate to let a good deal get away.
As a result.... I end up with multiples. Not always so smart.

So what have we learned.... she carries a flap bag, medium sized (I'm guessing).
and she shoulder carries the bag. Also the style is classic and understated, but she
dressed it up with the charm.
Big question for you is how far to venture from her current style.
Providing the same level of function is probably a good idea.
Some style enhancements might work, like an external back pocket or
a tassel. Think I would avoid big oversized front pockets.

There is a Dooney style in Florentine that looks like the satchel...
but is made for shoulder or cross body and doesn't have the handles.
I'll see if I can find the name so you can check it out.... just a thought.

Mushroom: so far I found 3 bags for you to look at....
all Florentine:
Tassel Shoulder bag (might be too small),
Laurel Hobo, and
Twist Strap Hobo.

There is one more I'm thinking of, like the Tassel shoulder bag,
but a little large and with a longer strap. I have to dig mine out
to get the name.

These bags might be too understated or lack the structure
you are thinking about. But they are options to expand your
search.

I’ve sent her pics of the mini and medium zip crossbody… I want this in my collection. Couldn’t decide on which color I wanted. She didn’t like them. Nor did she like this green flap. I was sending her choices when I saw them pop up knowing there would only be one available for purchase. She loves the coach lindey that she was carrying. I did find it in green, as it is vintage, there aren’t many for sale. She likes to wear crossbody bags.
The last pic is the coach green Lindsey, she’s been carrying the black with her initials stamped on the flap since the 80’s. Poor bag was worn so the plastic was showing thru the piping…
im glad I was able to give her a few choices of green bags to choose the one she wanted.
