If that was my budget I'd be getting a custom ring made, that way you can choose everything from the exact stone you have to the setting, but thats just me I guess.

Then again I know exactly what I want, and I know a wonderful jeweller who will give me top quality at the best price. And what I want isn't brand name, so I guess this makes a difference.

My bf and I also had a max 20k euro (not sure what the equivalent is in usd) budget, I wanted a 1ct Tiffany ring with diamond band, he got me a 0.95ct carat Tiffany ring w diamond band in f, vvs, perfect measurements according to ame's ranges and it was under budget= 14500 chf. It's perfect! Try to go a little under a carat and you'll save a huge deal!

I love the second one!

I am honestly worried about getting David Yurman directly because I'm concerned that I'm paying for the brand name... I really never wear any jewelry at all even but I just fell in love with those designs :(
You are definitely paying for the name and if you want to upgrade the name on the setting means nothing to a jeweler. Have you thought about taking or sending your pictures to a jewelry designer at a jewelry store? Custom rings aren't as much as you might think. I have used Robert Pelliccia before to do a necklace and ring for me. Loved both items and got exactly the design I wanted

I would also take a print out of the design and get a quote from a local reputable family jeweler who can likely cut the price down, or even get you a bigger stone within budget. You are definitely paying for the name if you go DY or Tiffanys, Cartier, etc. Good luck!

If you love David Yurman and his style speaks to you, go for it. It's a special piece. Get what you love. Having a copy made by a bench jeweler will never suffice. I've used both Canera and Kirsch for custom pieces-- the premium was not worth it at all.

It's a nice time to buy a larger stone-- best of luck to you!

Good luck!

btw really compare rings and prices (brands, at diamantiers), when I compare my 1 ct tiffany with the 1,5 non-brand diamond rings (of equally good quality and comparable settings) some of my friends have, I'm not sure if I would make the same decision again...

+1, one of my friends has a very similar ring to mine, size, etc. that she bought at Tiffanys for 3x what we paid! :S
