2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

My Chloe Paddy is heavy and not even large (36cm) which is why I didn't use it very much. If I took the lock off it would be lighter, but I bought it because I like the way the oversized lock looks :shrugs:

Anyone else have a similar emotional connection with older bags or do you only look for new styles or classic vintage?
I miss the time when bags were innovative as with the Paddy and the original launch of the Dior saddle.

That being said, I don’t have an emotional connection with any older bags in particular. But I do find myself more willing to buy pristine editions of older (now, of course, preloved) bags because they have distinctive style and often better quality.

New releases of bags are so blah - especially given that 1) so called quiet luxury :yucky: has been dumbed down to often mean plain-ish leather sack with zero style and 2) brands are rarely offering materials and construction that make us swoon. I haven’t had new bags take my breath away in years. :frown:
Two updates-neither good news…

My gynaecologist has just emailed me a letter referring me for a hysteroscopy-which sounds horrible.

Far worse, my Dad contacted me a couple of hours ago, my Mum is critically ill, on antibiotics and neither eating nor taking her regular medication.

This has been a dreadful day.
I feel so bad for you. This is a lot for you to contend with. My heart is with you.

I mentioned a while back that I’d bought a second bag this year. Despite the absurd cost, I’ve really been enjoying my newest workhorse bag - studded soft calfskin Prada Galleria tote.

I definitely made the right decision to start buying what I need for my “real” life vs my pre Covid life. This bag is fun while stile being practical. And I love that it’s structured but still has leather that feels soft & cuddly.

Stunning -all of your bags are absolutely beautiful!
Carry her in good health.❤️❤️

Thank you❤️-even my non speaking sister spoke yesterday evening-if my Mum doesn’t respond to the antibiotics, this is it…
I’ve had a sleepless night, wondering how I can face all of this.

The support here means so much to me.

I feel it's a bit of a design flaw. So is the poor resin painting. Not Dior's most craft-conscious time, even if the designs were fab.

When I clean and condition, I have to be careful not to get the cream under. Even if it unravelled, the bag is tucked under the arm and has a flap.

I am more annoyed I have to always carry it on my left shoulder. I'm left-handed but I prefer to carry shoulder bags on my right.
My brain doesn't do left/ right well... I had to grab a short shoulder bag and check in the mirror how I handle it when I'm not thinking about it.
I seem to put my bag on my left shoulder, but it doesn't take long until it moves down onto my forearm to dangle and be changed over to my right wrist.

I was shocked to see how much '00s bags have gone-up recently. If I wanted to sell it now would be the time, but the Paddington was one of my first bag crushes. I had others I grew out of, glad I didn't 'invest' in, like the LV Murakami Cherry Blossom Sac Retro (even though I absolutely love the new collab and have been following the reissue threads) but the Dior Saddle, MJ Venetia (even though I thought it was a Blake :D) and my Chloe bags were such hard saves (I was at uni at the time). My determination to have a a few new, beautiful leather bags is somehow inside each one (Gucci Horse-bits included).

I only have one Prada bag left which I have also never taken a picture of. It's a suede olive waist-bag, quite useful on long walks.

Anyone else have a similar emotional connection with older bags or do you only look for new styles or classic vintage?
I agree about the current crazy pricing of 00's bags!
Everything I own is "old". Current bags usually don't tempt me and If they do initially I usually recognise which old design inspired them and go for this.
Emotional attachment is real! Most bags I have ( the random ones and failures were left behind during the big moving purge) are the result of endless research and hunting or of amazing strikes of luck, so owning them means they were meant to be mine.

I'm prying for you both.

Not that I am one for giving advice about these things, but I can tell you what has helped me recently. Gets me through days and from test to test. Evening before, I write myself a list of things I need to do the following day. The practical things keep me distracted. A week can feel like a long time.

My fear is that I will slip into a place where I have let everything go and will be swallowed.
Sending you a huge hug xx

Please put the worries about what might happen to your mum into a deep virtual drawer and close it firmly. There is nothing you can do, but be in the moment with your mum and give her love.
Take care xx

Thank you @whateve. Yes, the Soho Disco is one of my most frequently carried bags over the past eight years! It is lightweight, practical, and spacious for a small, casual bag. So easy to carry! It works for my lifestyle.

Thank you for your kind words @880. I appreciate my mother-in-law for entrusting me with her Coret hand me down!
