2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

My Gucci Aphrodite Medium reveal!

It comes with 2 extender straps. One makes it a longer shoulder bag and the other makes it a crossbody. Theoretically you could attach them both at the same time and, I don't know, get a crossbody that goes to your mid-thigh maybe? I think I'll start out wearing it with the shorter extender.

It's so differently shaped from any bag I have. Tall and wide and skinny. Here are a couple comparisons next to my Brahmin medium Duxbury, which is what I used today.

Even though it's skinny, it can fit all my usual stuff with room to spare, which is good, as a I foresee some Nintendo Switches getting put in here

While in store I was able to try the piston lock on another bag. I know there are Gucci bags similarly shaped to this one but with those locking closures. I definitely prefer just having this magnetic closure. It's got one irregularity in its stitching as far as I can see, which I'm okay with. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for letting me share!

This is a beauty, I have been wearing mine, if not non-stop, at least twice a week.

Love the colour of yours too

Quoting my own post to say, when I went to pick the Gucci Aphrodite up, I also stopped by Coach and saw the Sammy Top Handle here, in this same color. At least under store lights, the yellow was a bit lighter, not quite as saturated. I actually preferred the color in person. The bag gives a fancy girl vibe. But upon seeing it in person, like the Revel, I was easily able to resist.

I also stopped by Kate Spade and saw the heart bag, in red. It. Is. Gorgeous! It's prettier in person, I think, and the feel is absolutely amazing. So puffy and soft and squishy. And easily fits my phone. There would be no justification for me getting that bag right after spending so much on the Aphrodite, but I can't deny I want it. Well, we can't very well have everything we want, now can we?

Ha ha, walk a w a y from the bag.

At least for a week. I must say - it's soooooooo CUTE!

I will post my orange and yellow bags (cuz you know I have and love my orange bags) but this past week has been and the coming weeks are going to be extremely difficult. As you know, my mom has been in treatment for brain cancer for almost 3 years after originally being advised she would only live another 6-8 months. Well, the cancer is now untreatable and progressing rapidly. She is now in hospice care and not expected to live beyond a few weeks. I have been visiting her daily and will be staying with her for next few weeks to help care for her and spend as much time as I can with her while I can.

I am gutted. Tired. Sad. Overwhelmed. Angry. No one, and I mean no one, deserves to die this way. To be stuck in a body that she can barely control and unable to communicate beyond a yes or no. To see her this way hurts so much more than I can express.

So I will not be around as much, more lurking than contributing, but still look forward to seeing and hearing about all the goings on. And I ask for your prayers for my mom. Thanks.
Am so very, very sorry to hear this. I lost my mom 10 years ago to brain cancer. It was the absolute worst of times. My heart goes out to you. Thoughts and prayers.

Posting my one orange and my one purple bag in the same week.

The camera bag style is one of my favourites, I like this Gucci Suede Soho Disco. It's officially orange but it can do fake-tan when it needs too

My only purple is a Gucci too, a lizard Hysteria clutch from a collection that sent me broke in AW08/9. However I still have and love everything I bought that season.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine how hard it is to see her that way. :(

I’m so sorry to hear this. You, your mom and your family are in my thoughts. Hugs to you.

Men's dress watches used to be plainer than their day counterparts (same rule with shoes except it patent leather) ideally a pocket watch. Women's are always a lot more fancy and much smaller, sometimes disguised as bracelets or as a pendant, and usually gem-set.

I have 3 dress watches, probably the most notable for it's name if nothing else, is a vintage small diamond and platinum Rolex. I don't post any of my watches or jewellery on tPF to be safe. Mine watches actually ones that are worth 'proper' money, but I have a rule for myself.

I would wear a dress-watch wherever, whenever it says cocktail or formal attire, but not if I'm doing a day(straight to)evening event.

These days people just seem to wear their most prized things everywhere and all the time, same things to all events, but I like to dress-up occasionally for going out, look smart(er) for work on days we have meetings and wear stuff I don't have to worry about when need be.
I don't have a dress watch, but if I did, I would keep it to wear to mostly formal or dressy occasions too. Your vintage Rolex sounds lovely, and I completely understand about not posting pics. I love the idea of pocket watches, although wrist watches are of course way more practical. My grandfather had a pocket watch, I remember.

As for women's dress watches, I think it's fun to have a little watch incorporated into a bracelet, or a piece of jewelry. The only thing is, it seems like the smaller women's dress watches are usually always quartz. My daily wear watches are small (22 mm) and quartz but as I am reading more about watches, I am coming to understand and appreciate why people admire mechanical and automatic watches -- it seems to be about the artistry and skill that goes into designing those time-pieces.

@cowgirlsboots, here is the pic of Miss Dior, accompanied by the vintage Miss Dior fragrance. The bag has the pale pink leather interior, just like my grey Miss Dior bag.

I was going to try to take a pic today with my pink bags but just haven't gotten around to doing it. I am not sure I will be able to keep up with color weeks, but will post pics as and when I am able.

I see everyone's beautiful examples, and it's lovely to admire, so I feel a bit ungenerous not doing the same.

It's true, most of the today's slimmer and smaller models are quartz, and actually there's nothing wrong with that - except when the charge almost the same amount as for a mechanical.

The most beautiful dress watch era fro me is Art Deco, and my favourite dress watch would be a VCA Cadena created in 1935, and now they all seem to be quartz https://www.vancleefarpels.com/gb/en/collections/watches/cadenas.html I think if someone spends between £39, 000-£167, 000 on a watch, it shouldn't have to be quartz (the originals were not).

My heart breaks for you. I have been to a similar place with my mother (and DH fears the worst for his presently) also for 3 years. Continual 6-hour round-trips to hospitals at least twice a week - and I personally did not think she got the care she deserved except when critical. The general wards were 'loveless' IMO, my mother used to humour the staff and not the other way round. There was a point when I am sure my mother said to herself that enough is enough, until then she had really tried to get better. And of course, you may feel guilty whatever you do (as I did/do) just know it's all a process and it does (one day) get better (or at least bearable).
I know when my mom gave up. She started with melanoma and ovarian cancer, then it spread to her lungs and brain. They were able to get rid of brain cancer fairly easily with targeted radiation but in the end, the cancer was everywhere.

That's terrible that your mom's treatment in the hospital was so impersonal. In the US, nearly everyone gets a private room in the hospital. I feel very lucky that the nursing staff when I was in the hospital was wonderful.

I agrée with @papertiger regarding posting expensive items plus I am too lazy to go retrieve them from the safe.
I have two pink bags both from Longchamp and both boring and a purple Todd one. Plus pink accessories.
Cancer is really the worst. My mother had breast cancer and my father had a lethal attack. I d rather have a widow maker and be done with it.
Too bad you can‘t choose.

I am so sorry you had to go through that too. It's so hard to see someone you love suffer.

My mother had to go to so many hospitals for different things, it was hard to keep up. I guess we are lucky too, there are much worse places in the world.

Anyway, I don't want @BowieFan1971 to feel worse. It's just everything comes back.

The VCA Cadena watch is amazing! Such a unique, timeless, and stylish design. Very interesting clasp, and the angled dial is an excellent feature. Agree with you about the pricing! The thing is, it seems like watchmakers were/are able to make mechanical movements for even small watches, but for some reason it's not usually done; wonder why. Maybe it's just more intricate and challenging to do when the watch is so small? I noticed in one of the articles that @EvaH had linked about Queen Elizabeth's watches, that some of the small watches she wore were mechanical and not quartz.

You're welcome!
I think if a watch is heavier or tight, it can certainly feel uncomfortable. I like that my Tank Francaise is small and not heavy. Even so, I tend to wear it a little bit on the looser side, like a bangle bracelet, and usually take it off when I get back home. Do you like bracelets or bangles?

Ah yes, I know we share a love for the Miss Dior and promenade bags! I will take a pic in the daylight tomorrow and post it.
I wear one bracelet on my left wrist 24/7. It´s fairly big silver chain links and very loose. It´s the only one that doesn´t bother me.
Looking forward to the photo!
