2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

This is all so helpful, thank you so much @jblended for taking the time to give me this information. Absolutely nothing to forgive, the advice is excellent, and I am still on a learning curve here. My doctor has prescribed antihistamines and I have been given an epi pen. My reactions were facial swelling (cheeks, jaw) and extremely tingling/itchy sensation in the ears. Also a rash like a mosquito bite, but that was just in a small area and disappeared very quickly. Since I'd never experienced anything like this before, it felt significant to me, I was really taken aback. I've had allergies to things before but it was usually the sniffles, watery eyes, that sort of thing. I was not given any allergy card, but perhaps the specialist would give me one? I am in the US, and I think this is an excellent idea. I will talk to my doctor about it. In the meantime, I am going to print out a copy to keep in my bag at all times.

Yes, it's a good idea to move slowly with testing fragrances. I have never tried anything by Memo, and as for oud, it's not a favorite note of mine, so I only have one or two fragrances with it in the notes. Of course, we don't know everything that's in a perfume, so it's wise to proceed cautiously. Yes, my mom's experience has come in handy, she had asthma, and light, floral colognes were her preference for day to day wear. I even have some of the bottles she used. I appreciate your kind words and agree that it doesn't help to get stressed about this, and to take it one day at a time. I will update when I am able to start wearing fragrances.
Thanks for posting this. I've had a couple of those things and didn't realize they could have been caused by allergies. My ears often bother me, like there is some water inside, but I know there isn't. The mosquito bite thing - lately I've had a single small itchy bump on my leg that I couldn't figure what it was. Usually my allergies present as a cough and eczema. I've had hives. You know it is hives if they move around. The first time I had them, I was pregnant and they lasted 6 weeks. My doctor didn't know what caused them - he said it could have been the pregnancy.

I've had the scratch tests and the blood test. They only test for organic things, not manmade chemicals. I'm allergic to oak trees, grass and dust, so I can never get away from my allergens.

Different antihistamines work better for some people than others, sometimes you have to try them all to find which one works for you. The one that works for me is an older one they don't even market as an antihistamine.

You guys, I got the Gucci! I just picked it up from the store. I’m having tea, but just noticed the box is torn? Is it … bad in any way to go back in and ask for an untorn box? Ugh, I’m going to ask anyway. Edited to add: I went back and got a better box.
Woohoo! I can hardly wait to see it. I'm glad you went back for another box.

Hmm...I do have a few fashion watches that I never wear that were given to me.
I guess I consider anything that is a little more fun and stylish than a classic automatic to be a dress watch? Usually in a metal that is not stainless steel and embellished in stones or something like that. May it has more color(s) or a unique shape?

I'm boring though, so I like classic. Ever since I got my panthere, that's all I've been wearing. (should probably change my profile pic at this point lol) I'd happily wear it on any occasion to any event!
I think anything that is closer to jewelry, a bit smaller in size, and perhaps with diamonds or a little bit of extra bling would be a dress watch. Agree about the metal being something other than stainless steel. I like classic too! Your Panthere is lovely, like jewelry, and versatile -- you can wear it to many occasions and events! I don't live near a Cartier boutique and the jewelry store here who are authorized Cartier dealers didn't have any Panthere in small size (or two tone) for me to try. Maybe I will get to try it when I am travelling.
Thanks for the Tank Francaise compliments. It's actually surprising how small the 22 mm is in real life. It just looks big in the pictures and close up photos. I love the medium size too (the one @BowieFan1971 has).

Have you talked to your doctor about the ears, and the small bump? It could be allergies of course, but it could possibly be something else as well? I guess it doesn't hurt to mention it to your doctor during your next visit. For me, the swelling, tingling in the ears and the rash all happened at the exact same time and shortly after a snack. The swelling was the only thing that lingered for a couple hours. The other symptoms disappeared quickly.

That's interesting info about the tests. There are so many manmade chemicals around us, but if they're not testing for that, I guess we won't know if one of them is an irritant. I know I am allergic to house dust (sneezing, stuffy nose), which is why dusting is a chore I absolutely detest!
I normally wear chunky, men’s watches. This is the only watch I wear for dressy occasions.

Pretty! Diamonds make a watch dressy!
@nyeredzi, looking forward to seeing your new Gucci bag!

This is very clever!

I appear to be stuck in the dark ages with my old laminated piece of paper!

I love sentimental pieces with stories like this.

I wanna see the watch now, lol. :giggle:

:lol::lol::lol:

I have no idea how US docs handle these things, but it's definitely something you should have once you've determined what the allergens are. @whateve 's medical alert bracelet/tag suggestion is better than mine, for sure.

Seconding this suggestion. It could be great fun!

My Gucci Aphrodite Medium reveal!

gucci short handle in box.jpg

It comes with 2 extender straps. One makes it a longer shoulder bag and the other makes it a crossbody. Theoretically you could attach them both at the same time and, I don't know, get a crossbody that goes to your mid-thigh maybe? I think I'll start out wearing it with the shorter extender.

It's so differently shaped from any bag I have. Tall and wide and skinny. Here are a couple comparisons next to my Brahmin medium Duxbury, which is what I used today.

Even though it's skinny, it can fit all my usual stuff with room to spare, which is good, as a I foresee some Nintendo Switches getting put in here

While in store I was able to try the piston lock on another bag. I know there are Gucci bags similarly shaped to this one but with those locking closures. I definitely prefer just having this magnetic closure. It's got one irregularity in its stitching as far as I can see, which I'm okay with. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for letting me share!

Congratulations! It's a lovely color.

I know what you mean about those locking closures. I used to have a Gucci Jackie with that kind of closure. It wasn't that easy to use.

The handbags I have expressed admiration for in the last 3 months

Trigger finger's feeling itchy. Who's it going to be?
Quoting my own post to say, when I went to pick the Gucci Aphrodite up, I also stopped by Coach and saw the Sammy Top Handle here, in this same color. At least under store lights, the yellow was a bit lighter, not quite as saturated. I actually preferred the color in person. The bag gives a fancy girl vibe. But upon seeing it in person, like the Revel, I was easily able to resist.

I also stopped by Kate Spade and saw the heart bag, in red. It. Is. Gorgeous! It's prettier in person, I think, and the feel is absolutely amazing. So puffy and soft and squishy. And easily fits my phone. There would be no justification for me getting that bag right after spending so much on the Aphrodite, but I can't deny I want it. Well, we can't very well have everything we want, now can we?

Beautiful bag! Love the color and the leather -- it has such a rich glow to it. Wear in good health and enjoy!

This is the only watch I wear for dressy occasions.

Kate Spade has sales all the time (online), so if you decide you still want it, it'll likely drop in price pretty soon. It's adorable.
