2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Yesterday I spent some time reorganizing my bedside table, which had gotten messy. I removed a cut glass bowl that had been full of leftover Halloween candy and replaced it with a tray holding some winter beauty care needs. The skin really takes a beating in winter, and I am preparing a little care tray with items to use before bedtime. The tray holds a jar of rich cream for the hands that get so dry in winter as well as a jar of coconut oil and a small bottle of almond oil, both used as moisturizers. I also repurposed an old handbag that I wasn't using to hold samples and travel sizes of moisturizers that I intend to use up. This year, I added a foot cream and some socks to the tray, to be used at nighttime.
What are some of your winter care strategies to combat dry skin? Also, please share if you have repurposed a handbag and put it to some use around the house.

I have to change up my skincare routine when fall/winter comes. It gets terribly dry in California and I feel that as I get older, my skin gets drier. And I too have a small tray on my nightstand with my Dior cuticle cream.
I'll go home to snap some photos of my favorite skincare products for dry weather/dry skin.

Just popping in to say hi! Sorry, I have so much to catch-up on.

DH will have chemo but not abroad, then major surgery after - and then more rounds of chemo. SIL is coming over next week to help. All in this course of treatment will be exactly 8 months. Strangely (or maybe not strange) DH was understandably in-shock and depressed when first diagnosed then undergoing so many tests in the UK and abroad (it's quite a rare cancer). He's fairly young and super-fit so there is some hope. There will be no Scotland for Christmas/Hogmanay this year, no family/neighbourly gatherings so we're having a big party before the chemo starts next week

I've been using my bags, shopping from my closet for work beyond the usual H work bags, including Gucci Aphrodite, Gucci Punch, H shoppers, YSL Marjorelle and 3 BVs. No major outgoing items but plenty to sort through.

I've fished-out my Bracher Emden clutch for DH's party (see above) as it's suitably Y2K-ish. A neighbour/friend and her two children are getting Baptised - no idea what is suitable (let me know if you know - I've been to baby christenings at CoE church and catholic confirmations, but never adult baptisms).

I've paused searching for the BV lizard Knot I was after, shopping's kind of taken a back seat. I will get one one day.

Best wishes to your husband's health and treatment journey. It can be a long and challenging road but I have faith that he will adapt and take it in better as time goes on. :hugs:Take care of yourself as well, it is tough on the patient and also on family/caregivers.

Has anybody been sucked into the Black Friday bargains?
So far I´ve been good and not bought anything. Impatient as I am I had done my online Christmas shopping earlier. Now I was nervous this might have been a mistake, but everything I had already bought did not go down in price for Black Friday (the one item that did go down by 20€ only did so from a marketplace seller on amazon, not as "sold by amazon" - this option went up by 10€- which I really wanted in case I might need their easy warranty in the future.

We just came back from a mini holiday to Napa Valley so we spent quite a bit on dining and wine. 🍷

There were some basic clothing pieces that I was eyeing that I knew I would buy and they went on sale for 40% so grabbed those. And the Sephora sale was pretty good for some items, my mother wanted me to grab a few things as well.

I was pretty good until I went on Amazon haha. Though I mainly bought what I considered to be good deals (30-45% off category) and what I already had in mind or needed replacing. A lot of homeware. So not too bad considering my past shopping history haha. :P

It would be a fun topic to discuss what everyone uses for their travel toiletries, maybe with pictures. I don't have anything by premier designers. In fact my current toiletries pouch is more utilitarian than pretty. Perhaps it's time to consider an upgrade!
Same with @880 all my creams and liquids are in ziplock bags.
My eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks do go in my Gucci toiletry bag. Not really a travel/toiletry luxury person but it was too cute and I had thought about it for a good 5-6 months before buying.

This is amazing. You are so talented LOVE

zomg - that is outstanding!!

You are so talented!

Thank you all so much! As usual I was nervous to show what I made. I mean, it´s never as perfect as I´d like it to be and it´s not exactly creative... but hey, I like flap bags! And they have to be fairly big.

This is a new pattern, that is not as high as the raffia and the Jaguar bag.

DS inspired the little bag charm. He had the idea of doing identical copies in different sizes, ideally a bag, a bag charm, a bag charm for the bag charm...

So when I had enough scraps of my red leather and spotted that one of our flashlights had a little chain I could use I simply had to try. Of course DS asked could I do another, even smaller one... sorry, no, this one was fiddly enough to sew.

Scratching my bag itch while avoiding the flood of sales advertisements in my inbox:

Please meet "curb couch".

I bought a batch of leather at a fleamarket a while ago. Curb couch at its best sprinkled with wall paint and stained with blue glitter. The price was great and I simply had to grab the challenge.

Yes, there a a few wrinkles I am not happy about and not all stitches are perfect...

But there´s a bag charm:

And both bags are leather lined. The big one has a bag organizer. I hate making them, but the fit is perfect.

Wow. The seams all line up on the bag and the bag charm. This is incredible. So beautiful

Wow, this is just such incredible work! You are so talented!

Pure nostalgia: the good old huge and heavy "beauty case" (as it was called here)! I had one since my teens and used it until the airlines changed all the luggage regulations. It was burgundy faux leather with gold hardware, big and generally stuffed to the brim with everything but the kitchen sink. Full sized bottles of every kind of cosmetic of course!
Yes, it was the airline regulations that made me get rid of mine. I even have a newer version I bought in London, which I still own, but don’t use, because it would be empty if I took it on the plane. Stupid terrorists. They ruined it for the rest of us! Side note: I happened to be traveling home from Seattle, bright and early in the morning, the day liquids were banned from planes in the U.S. in August 2006. A colleague I was traveling with called and asked if I had seen the news. I had and was in the process of repacking… At least we got out early, as our colleagues who left later in the day ended up leaving really late in the day due to all of the increased inspections!

Team Ziplock here too!
What a great bag! I love the texture and the colours!
Thank you so much - the weaving of the suede and the smooth leather is so cool (for lack of a better word).

Thank you! I´m proud of this!
Non measuring me actually used a ruler to make sure the lines would be correct (and I stuck with a simple quilting pattern.) The triangle on the flap isn´t actually as symmetrical as it should be though. It´s worse on the bag charm. The machine foot kept slipping and the the stitch length changing, because I chose the wrong interfacing that messed with the feeding dog... It´s all a learning curve!
