2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

May stats

I´m overwhelmed by my hoard, by my son´s school, by getting old and ugly- time doesn´t have a structure, it simply passes.... and really had to think hard whether I did buy any bags in May or not...
I guess:
bags in 3: the 3€ basket from the fleamarket and two "ppp" (as in polishing poo project) homemade bags

View attachment 5795117 View attachment 5795113 View attachment 5795118

bags out: 0
no slgs in or out
clothes in: several homemakes, all in the "ppp" category
clothes out: maybe... I remember throwing some worn out crap in the donation bin (the kind of collecting containers commercial collectors have at the curb everywhere, the items are sold or go into the shredder for recycling)

With the latest of my ppp bags I really pushed the idea to the limit. The material for this bag was nothing but scraps- the leftovers from a terrible 5€ leather jacket I had bought as a leather donor for my son´s jacket project, but not used, because the pig nappa was so bad. The lining was great and I at least used the fabric. Later I used the better leather parts for my blue raffia bag- all covered up... the scraps should have been thrown away. Oops, they did not and last week I shopped my own bin bag and patched together the little black bag.
The pig nappa still was a nuissance, like sewing chewing gum. It worked out in the end. I experimented with using double sided tape and iron on interfacing and learned something new...

There still are scraps... fancy a laugh? I caught myself wondering whether I should keep them and maybe patch together a linging for a pouch...

You really do not give yourself enough credit. You do amazing work! I am always impressed with the bags & clothes you are able to create.

I was busy in May.
2 pairs of shoes out
3 pairs of shoes in, including my first pair of designer sneakers.

Lighting again, they are actually pretty white.
1 wallet out - a Strathberry that only had card slots on one side.

LC hobo bag. It was surprisingly hard to find an orange bag that was also day size. This is technically a shoulder bag, but I bought some straps from Etsy so I can wear it crossbody.

This LC I shared earlier.

Coach Reese, size 28. It’s a little bigger than a Rogue 25, but without the compartments.
And my favorite (which should be no surprise)

this gorgeous Ferragamo.

Ferragamo is breathtaking!

Bargain! Congratulations.

Not to rain on your parade, it's great you bagged such a bargain, but I also find it awful that such beautiful bags are not valued more.

What I love is that that bag is in good hands now and get the love and care it needs.
Thank you! I fully understand what you mean. Lots of vintage bags aren´t valued anymore and sold for very little prices. Kuhn Fine Line usually doesn´t come this cheap, though. They seem to be one of the "if you know, you know brands", which people actively search for and are willing to pay decently for too. My other 3 Kuhn bags certainly weren´t this cheap...
Goldpfeil and Comtesse are other brands where vintage still fetches high(er) prices, but from time to time you can get very lucky and make a next-to-nothing purchase.

The lady who sold me the cheap Kuhn bag must have been doing a hefty closet purge. She had lots of older clothes, bags, shoes listed. Everything was really cheap. Probably she simply wants it all out to be used again. Her packaging was very nice and thoughtful.

Even though buying second hand gets very hyped at the moment and sustainability is the word of the hour lots of vintage still sells very cheap. We went to a flea market on Sunday. There was a lot of undervalued vintage hiding in boxes or crumpled heaps. Truffle pig-me was thrilled. I found original 60ies GDR dresses for 3€ a piece, original 70ies shoes for 8€, a 60ies GDR handbag in not too bad condition for 5€ and - that´s my absolute favourite- a Danish plastic bangle for glorious 2€.

DS got lucky too. He chose a vintage tux. It cost me 18€ and the seller was still very happy. She told me she was feeling the right vibes.

Aww, thank you!
My DS was actually telling me the same: "don´t sell yourself short", "be proud of your work" while DH usually first scrutinizes what I made , points out all the flaws and starts telling me to pay more attention or buy the professional machinery and high quality material. "You can´t polish poo!" he says and this way always keeps me on my toes feeling challenged to prove that I can.

I almost went crazy today. My jeans jacket was nowhere to be found and while searching for it I started sorting und purging my wandering wardrobe. I can´t believe all the vintage clothes I found and had totally forgotten I owned.
My coats must have secretly bred too... there are far too many and all of them are beautiful. Two were sub standard and finally- in a swift painless move- went into the textile container bag to leave the house for good together with other pieces, that were absolutely not worth keeping.
After an hour the jeans jacket finally was found in the storage room- neatly put away in a suitcase, that was even labeled. At this point I stopped my purge. There are several suitcases deeper in the stack, but already overwhelmed I couldn´t bring myself to drag them out and check the contents.

Ohmigosh - I’m glad you found your jacket!
An hour of purging is a lot, but I hope it made you feel better!

Thank you Cookie! It´s suddenly getting warm enough for me to wear my long floral 70ies dresses and they need the jeans jacket. Nothing else works.
The purge really did make me feel better- at least after it was done!

You are my kinda woman!

I think my babycroc (left)is Goldpfeil. It's almost H quality. The change purse and croc-backed mirror in front are part of it.
