in 2021 I was offered a big SAD bag I think it was a 40?
But I turned it down since I had no need for it.

Now I actually want to get one and I learned that you can get one used for much cheaper, is this true?
If so where do you reckon I could buy one from?

Thank you!

It's true that the resale price for these bags is much lower than the price of a new bag.

Where you should get them from depends on where you'd like to shop. Off the top of my head Collector Square in Paris has several for sale now for around 3000 USD. CS also has a price history feature. You can also these in the second hand stores in Japan too, probably some for even less. I wouldn't be able to recommend any other stores. Good luck!

So they retail for $9k and loses 66% of its value eh?

i'll check them out.
Any secondary stores you know of in USA?

It's an interesting tool but not necessarily correct globally. It tends to get more than US and Asian sites. 60% is around the resale market figure but it will include Artcuriel (auction) where 'normal' leather examples tend to go for less, sometimes after spending time on CS.

At the moment the site shows 4 for sale, only one is over $4K.

CS calculates by:
Its own local (Artcuriel/CS) data
Can include croc or numerous train wrecks within the style category eschewing mean price
Doesn't include SADs that didn't sell
Will be dependant on variables re. condition, leather, size etc as per usual.

Interestingly that the top and the bottom have evened out. Also noted, there were a few total bargains up to 2020. The bottom end is now double what it was pre-covid.

I just contacted CS. Let's see what they say.

The SAD bags, are they typically the same design year by year? Black with pebble grain texture?

DO you know of a place in USA that does what CS does?

Leather changes. ATM the most available is Light in Togo. I'm presuming the leather is thinner because it's an unlined bag anyway.

No idea, I'm in Europe..

AH, I didn't know that.

The SAD I held was in 2021, it looks like pebbled texture leather and it was quite sturdy.
You don't happen to know what it is do you?

So for purchasing hermes bags, people typically wait for the bag and material that they like since you said it changes yearly?

Not always yearly, but in phases. Yes, people wait for the right leather, colour and size combo

I believe the SAD years ago was Togo in size 42. There was a smaller version in 38. DH had one from a long ago sample sale when there used to be bags, and it was very heavy empty. He almost never carried it for that reason. Just FYI. US resellers might include fashionphile. Ann’s fabulous finds and yoogis closet. TRR has some issues with condition and authenticity, and does not accept returns on bags. There is a discuss reseller thread here : https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/trusted-hermes-reseller-discussion-thread.1068012/page-641

Japanese resellers may carry them too, and are usually quite detailed as to condition. There may be about 10% customs charge plus applicable state sales tax, but not always. Common advice is to pay via PayPal backed by cc; authenticate pre purchase via photos to @bababebi or other. I would not recommend an exotic for a SAD (bc of issues with rain)

Thanks so much! Yea, I remember that SAD 2021 was quite big and I wanted something smaller to fit a 16" macbook or even smaller perhaps.

Gonna do more research on those sellers.

And I certainly didn't know about exotic SAD....

Wow, the light ones aren't even lined huh, I'm not familiar with those. Not even a textile lining?

The more traditional style also came in box, which will stand up on its own and is mostly lined, but is heavier and will give a completely different look. They used to have a Kelly a Depeche on CS too in Epsom, but it looked really rough compared to other leathers of the same age. So for a work bag of this size and function, I wouldn't recommend Epsom.
Good luck!

From what I remember, none are lined
