Happy new year🎉🎉🎊🎊

I am super excited and look forward to a great 2015! This thread is off with a bang! All the thoughtful resolutions, commitment to shop in our own closet, careful and well thought out future purchases or no purchases at all, refining collections, etc. I look forward to being there with you and you to help me with my goals too.

And so it begins. just on my way to my sister's traditional New Year's Day buffet. True to my resolve, my bag is from my closet. My Perlina Gemma Tote.

:happydance:

I like the way your styled the tote with your outfit.

That's a lovely tote.

Today I popped out with my fiancée to run a few errands and have lunch out, I wore my Fossil Sydney satchel in magenta. No mod shot but here she is...View attachment 2848416

Pretty magenta color. I am a sucker for pinks.

I am still using my MZ Wallace Lizzy, love this bag!

How can I forget your beautiful wine color Lizzy.

The Perlina and Fossil bags are both really pretty!

I am spending the day relaxing and updating my Stylebook. I bought that app a year ago but really didn't do much with it at the time. I hope that it helps me to be more creative with my clothing. I am bad about just wearing the same stuff over and over again.

I have been off shopping now for 2 weeks and haven't been tempted to shop really at all. My ban is all clothing-related items and accessories (also makeup and bath/body stuff, but that is for another thread)
. I am sure that the ban will be more challenging once spring arrives, but for now I have no problem hibernating in the clothes that I already have.

You are off to a great start!

I received an invitation for the Longchamp sale: off it is to the trash!

I always find something I like in the L sale, be it bags, shoes or rtw...

Good for you. Those mailers can be such temptation.

I'm re-joining the club. Started out in the 2014 thread but dropped off due to not checking tpf for several months. Tpf can be quite the shopping motivator when you see all of the reveal threads, etc! LOL. I just have to keep telling myself "just because it's pretty doesn't mean i have to own it". Wish me luck!

For 2015:
(1) I'd like to keep my bag collection as-is (<20 bags) or reduce it by sharing w my loved ones or else selling/donating.

(2) Need to rotate my bags more often. I tend to use a certain bag or two for months and months, while others sit in my closet. Still have a Bal Day I purchased in early 2014 but still haven't used. Ugh. I recently bought the bright blue bag I felt like I was missing in my collection (MG large calfskin royal blue bucket tote), so I'll prob use it almost daily for the next few months since I love it! I really do enjoy my bags. I just get lazy about changing my nice bags out, since I'm already changing bags when we take our dog out - we try to bring her w us wherever we can (so I carry her collapsible water bowl, container of doggie treats, poop bags and some antibacterial hand wipes just in case), a diff bag for the gym or some place super casual where I don't want to bring a nicer bag.

(3) Clothing-wise, continue w my annual purging/donation, if not more frequently. I've got suits that are 10+ years old, some pieces w tags still on, pants still unaltered to my height, etc. I went from a formal prof working environment to now telecommuting almost 100%. I can't seem to let go of those suits due to the money invested and the thought that i might need them one day. Any advice?? They take up at least 1/3 of the closet rod. I would love to clear up that space. I already got rid of the dated ones or colors I wouldn't wear. I kept the classic styles in conservative colors, but I haven't had a single occasion to wear any of those suits in 4 yrs now?

(4) Shoe-wise, I really try hard at the one (pair) in, one (pair) out mantra, but I can't always stick to it. I'll try my hardest though.

Thanks for being a supportive community! So appreciative to have you, esp since you all understand how much we value our bags! :)

happy new year everyone!!! i love the idea of this thread. i would like to join and try. i will give my very best :-)

i think i have come to a point that i can say that i love every single bag that i have. i recently bought a chanel boy bag to complete my chanel collection. i felt so happy that i thought it was really the last chanel bag that i would buy then i tried to convince myself that i need a jumbo. you know the cycle of how you start thinking of the next bag after just acquiring a new one. i am a medium flap girl. it is the size i love and the one that looks good on me. who am i kidding with buying a jumbo just to have one?!? i need to remind myself of this everytime i get tempted. i will try to stay strong and not buy a jumbo. no more bags for 2015 except the longchamp le pliage in all leather for those times when i can't wear my other bags.

for 2015, i don't plan/want to make any super splurges but i want to buy some new SLGs. however, i will limit it to 4 - a new french wallet (i am open to any brand), lv cles in da and in vernis (griotte) as well as an lv round coin purse in mono. i figured i need these so i can rotate more in order to not get bored quickly :-) i also love shoes but i will try to resist buying new ones. i want to enjoy what i have after receiving the two tory burch boots i have ordered. as for clothes, i already have a downsized wardrobe (took me two years to get to this point!). i will try to do the one item of clothing a month thing and i will only buy if i really need it and if it can be mixed with the other items of clothing i already have.

i am feeling nervous writing this down but i know that it will help me focus :-) i shall visit this thread regularly and read thru our progress. i wish us all lots of fun, health and success in all our endeavours (including this one!) for 2015!

Welcome bag heaven! I can't wait to see your Boy bag. I have mostly classic flaps and a GST but wanted a boy but haven't pulled the trigger. I did get one last year (patent metallic boy in fuchsia old medium) but ended up returning it due to some of the problems TPFers had with the metallic peeling off. I still miss that bag and the price increases for the boy has turned me off thus far. Last year this thread also weaned me considerably from buying more Chanel bags than previously, which I am grateful. I understand your hesitation. Writing it down seems so real kwim. If you want to slow down, I think this thread is great and the ladies are soooo supportive in whatever decision you make. We will all be here to help you. 😄

My goals this year are fairly simple.

01. Do not allow my emotions to dictate my wallet. Some people are emotional eaters, I am an emotional shopper.

02. Do not buy bags just because they are on sale, hard to find, or because I saw a reveal and must have the bag now as well. Buy only items that are planned for and well researched.

With that being said, I have two definite bigger purchases in mind that will correlate with meeting personal, professional, and financial goals as well as the ability to buy them with cash. I have a couple of other bags in mind as well.

Ideally, I will make two major purchases this year along with three or four other purchase slated to not exceed a certain budget.

In the meantime, if I do not enjoy the bags I currently own, it should seem that I have no need to purchase anymore. So I am going to make an effort to enjoy what I own and give away what I haven't made the effort to enjoy.

Awesome! I am with you 1000%!

Happy new year everyone !

I have read this thread with interest and hoping to appreciate and use the bags I own this year. Last year I sold all the bags that I never used and have now about 12 bags which I need to rotate throughout the year.

I have looked really carefully at my collection and there are still a couple of gaps I would love to fill. So If the opportunity arises I hope to purchase these bags which I have been wanting for over 6 months and keep returning to look at again and again so I think they will not be impulse, bargain purchases but pieces that will compliment my wardrobe and be used

So I'm hoping for a black Mini givenchy nightingale as an every day across body bag

A Louis Vuitton neverfull or delightful as a go to grab bag and my first chanel as an investment piece (this one might be beyond my reach for now). That's it I don't need any more however I may end up wanting more anyway lol

I love the idea of 1 item of clothing per month and will try to stick to that too as I have lots in my wardrobe and so much I don't actually wear. I'm hoping to buy quality not quantity this year.

Good luck everyone on your goals for 2015 and I look forward to all the photos of much loved bags in use :)

Everything sounds divine. I look forward to seeing your collection.

I'm in. Happy New Years! I hope everybody has a prospering and joyful year. I redid my whole purse collection to better reflect my style. The excitement of buying bags is starting to fade. So, I am looking towards other interest like buying cool shoes and learning to sew. I'm so excited about designing my own clothes that is tailored to me. My goal is to buy one or two bag and some accessories to go with my bags. Then I will shop in my closet and buy a new bag every other year or two. I'm happy about my goal and look forward to meeting it. :smile1:

Welcome, SweetDaisy05! Learning to sew sounds like fun. I look forward to seeing what you make and your collection.

Happy New Year everybody!

Here's another thing that I learned: I need to stay away from the reveal threads.

I am very proud of myself that I resisted a bag that I saw the other day in a store: it was sooo pretty, well made and in a gorgeous shade of light brown. But I already have a very similar one that I use for work, so no need :smile1:

Good luck with everybody's resolutions! We can do it!!

So true about those awesome reveal threads. Lol... Great job resisting the bag.

Happy New Year to all! I look forward to being among the hardy souls who have resolved to shop from their own closets. I have finally rid myself of those closet monsters lurking in the corners and now only have bags that I will wear without a qualm. No more impulse purchases or clearance rack finds. Whenever my nearest and dearest ask me what I want for my birthday, anniversary etc. I'll suggest more French cookware and books by Jacques Pepin and Eric Ripert.

Closet monsters...lol

Happy New Year everybody

I'm just glad that my mother's Christmas present came to me yesterday and not today or it would have been the shortest NY's resolution ever.

That's not to say I'm an ungrateful daughter, I always wanted a Gucci Flora bag and it was a lovely gift/thought.

I'll just have to make sure I double my resolve and stick to my plan this year, I already feel myself weakening for a new silk scarf

Look forward to seeing that Gucci Flora.

Very good idea

I have most listed on my phone, it's pretty impossible to look at that list and not realise I have nearly every style, size, material, skin and colour covered and don't need anymore

I look forward to seeing your collection.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a safe and lovely holiday last night and today.

My new year has already shaped up to be interesting. As planned, I took a walk with my son this morning, and then left to run errands by myself and only get the items on my list. (Of course, I actually forgot to write down the one item that was the inspiration for going shopping today and I HAVE to go back and get it before I go back to work on Monday. grrr). But I stuck to the list, and didn't bother to take a peek at the bags in Marshalls. Then I went home and found out that several of the MZ Wallace SLGs I've been coveting for a better part of 2014 were being sold by the same person in a different online group--and I went ahead and bought them!

It's actually an awesome discount and I'll be using at least one piece on a daily basis. And another piece is a continental wallet which was also on my list for 2015. But I am chagrined to buy on 1/1 of all days. Had the purchase occurred on 12/31, I'd have no hard feelings whatsoever. I'm counting today as one bag towards my allowed 6 maximum for 2015. Perhaps this was a good way to get any spending in January out of the way. I'm off to tweet my spreadsheets; one is a wishlist and the other tracks what I spend!

If the slg's were something you have been wanting and will get lots of use, not to mention at a good discount, then it was meant to be, regardless of the date. Please post when you receive them, so we can enjoy them too. 😀

I'm in love with your Flora. I bought the N/S tote but it was like a sleeping bag. By that time, nordstrom sold out of the other one. I almost ordered yours but figured it just wasn't meant to be for me. I just adore the design.

So I finally finished my rehab on the Stam. If you followed in 2014, you might remember I Love the Stam design. I have a mini but always wanted the bigger hand held one. Well a poor little Stam found me and needed some TLC. It came late in the year so it counted on my 2014 tally.

Pretty proud how it turned out. She's just so soft and shiny now. My LOs actually helped clean the hardware. Teaching them young how to care for bags! Lol Those little fingers did a great job getting to the nooks and crannies.

Lou, what an awesome restoration job!!! The stam looks totally different and the leather looks luscious. Not to mention the new feet. Great job!

Thanks! I used Obenauf's, Blackrock, and Coach's leather conditioner. It had some light paint specks on it (just a few) and a few other little spots where the color was just off so I used some black arcylic paint to touch up. I added feet too.

Obenauf's and Blackrock is often referenced in the H thread too. I use Cadillac on my Chanel and Celine bags, which has been good. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning sticky handles and preventing handles from getting sticky? I have a bag that has sticky handles and that bugs me.

Stayed in/had a lazy day (lots of football watching), so no bag for me. Back to work tomorrow. Might try to work on some ebay listings tonight. I just have a small item listed right now but it has lots of bids.

Good luck. One of my resolutions for this year is to weed out unwanted bags.

Thanks and yay for bids. I need to post a few items. Will put them on my to do list for the weekend. Time to declutter and keep purging.

Football here too. Going to take some kiddos for a hike in just a bit to enjoy the weather.

Good luck to you too.

Yesterday, I was so tempted to buy a Chanel red reissue in new condition from the online consignment store, at an amazing price, and thinking my new year resolution of not buying any bags doesn't start until 2015. Yesterday was still 2014. Lol!
Really? Who am I kidding?! Do I need a reissue? No, as I have a black distressed calf with ghw. Do I need a red flap? No, as I have a red chevron flap and a red woc. I just didn't have the reissue in red distressed calf.
In the end, I'm so glad I resisted the temptation without pressing the "purchase" button, and someone snagged it. I really don't need any more new bags. But, I must confess, I did purchase a pair of Valentino shoes yesterday in the store at a steep discount (55% off). :)
2015 is a new start, I am grateful for what I've own and looking forward to using all my bags routinely.
Today I am using my red Chanel woc with a Long Champ backpack while visiting a museum in the daytime, and will be out for a nice dinner later. I can keep the backpack in the car and use the woc for dinner.
Yes! It's a great start of the year. Happy New Year everyone.

Big congrats on resisting the reissue. I completely understand your desire for the red reissue although you have the chevron and woc. The reissue is a bag I have been wanting to get but never found one that I love, except for your beautiful black calfskin with ghw. I can't wait to see it. Black calfskin with ghw is the only reissue that ever spoke to me but I resisted since I have the black jumbo, black WOC and black gst already. Kwim...Lol...

Would love to see your valentinos. I got four pairs last year so I am trying very, very hard to avoid that thread in the event I find a pair in nude. That would be soooooo hard to resist. Putting blinders back on quickly now... Also would love to see your red woc and LC backpack. Not sure if I've seen the backpack version yet.

WOW we do not waste time! Happy New Year everyone!

I've read all the comments and want to say welcome to all the new comers! Congrats to all those who resisted sales already. Loving the bags I've already seen - looking forward to seeing everyone's bags as we travel this journey together.

I spent the day with my parents and attended a symphony orchestra - was amazing!

Tomorrow I will be stepping into the office for a bit and have decided to start fresh with a bag I did not use in 2014 - Kate Spade Wellesley Elena tote. I've been on the fence for a while about whether to let her go because her LOOK is great for work but her holding capacity is a bit tough to work with because the saffiano is so stiff. We'll see how it goes. I chose my semi-retired Coach wallet as a way of seeing my DH everyday since he is visiting family for 2 months, and I switched into my Fossil keyholder and am using my Coach keyholder to hold extra loyalty cards . My make-up and other emergency odds and ends are in a Bodyshop pouch. With this bag, I have to keep it simple so everything will fit easily. I will try to use her for the majority of the time in January and we'll see how it goes.

Very pretty KS and love all the SLGs. I was recently at the KS outlet during Christmas and I did notice many of their bags are structured. I never knew that.

Wow! The Stam makeover is fabulous!! You know the resolution I made - well, *ahem* I wound up going to Dillards today because they were having their annual 50% additional off already marked down items. One day only:). I knew the only handbag I wanted/needed was a black hobo style. Coach had one that was marked down to $299 so with the additional 50% I thought if I could find one...... Let me tell you, that place was crazy nuts today. Store opened at 10:00, I got there about 10:10. Parking lot was jammed. Got inside probably by 10:20, it was like a war zone. The purse department looked like a tornado had gone through. Purse stuffing everywhere.......tables were empty, maybe one little crossbody half on, half off the table with its poor strap twisted into a nightmare. There were two types of women there; those who were walking around with 6-8 bags on their arms and the other type was stalking them. Just waiting for them to put one down. And of course, there were still tons of regular priced bags that weren't going anywhere today, but some crafty ladies had stuffed the sale bags on the regular priced shelves, probably while they debated. wrong!!! I found the exact Coach I wanted on the bottom shelf of one such and snatched that baby up in one fell swoop. And then walked through the rest of the departments clutching it to me, knowing I was being followed. It was unbelievable. But what this means now is no more bags until April at least. Or else I failed. Stay tuned, it's anyone's guess right now.......

Your story is so funny and so true...lol... Congrats on an awesome score and surviving the war zone!! Hope you will share a pic of the prize.

What a great job you did Lou! I have a mini Stam in black and I just love it too!

I tried the coach leather conditioner and it helped a bit . I used to use apple care conditioner but the new bottle seems watery and does not work like the old bottle did. I just bought something at tj maxx but will try it on an old shoe first. I will check out the coach rehab thread. Thanks!
I'm also on my 2nd bottle of Apple brand conditioner and I've noticed the same thing - the solution is not as thick as my first bottle. But I think (or am I imagining?) that it is still working anyway.

I'm imagining the war zone and all the stalking! The troubles we ladies go through to get our bags. :graucho:

eggtart, love your KS! I am really liking the look of more structured bags lately. I know what you mean about them looking like they would hold more than they actually hold though. I will be interested in if you decide to keep this one.

I'm planning to list 2 bags for sale this weekend. I plan to price them fairly, but not cheaply. If they sell, great. If not I'll try using them more this year!

Katiesmama, great job on stalking and capturing the bag you wanted!

bake, I have no experience with woc's; sorry. I'm waving at you though! :)

Welcome to all new people!
Together we can enjoy the pretty bags and stay strong!

Loved to see KS bag!

What a story with Dillard's! Glad you
made it out health and with a bag! Can't wait to see the pictures. :)

I can't get a WOC out of my head.

Does anyone have one? Reviews/recommendations/warnings?

Help!

I don't know anything about the items you are considering. Is there are reason why it would make sense to buy them over there? Price or availability? If not, then come home and think about it.
Other than that ... I like to buy memory pieces from my trips and not always mugs or kitchen magnets ;)

Can you wear the blazers with jeans? Or the pants or skirts without a blazer? I find this works well with solids and tweeds, depending on how they are cut.
