I'm trying to choose a Christmas present from my husband to myself and I'm having trouble choosing between a 7 stone ring with a tcw of 1ct or a full eternity ring with a tcw of 1ct. Both rings are around the same price, and I don't want to go any bigger as I think it would look too large on me. I'm ideally looking to wear the ring on its own on my right hand ring finger. I'd like to wear the ring out in the evenings, but also have the option of wearing it in the daytime to nice lunches, shopping etc. - hence why I don't want it to be too large or flashy. I've put some pictures below, if anyone has any rings similar, I'd love to see pictures or suggestions  TIA!

My husband seems to think the eternity ring is a better option, as he says I can stack them quite easily if I wanted to add one in YG in the future.

I’m partial to eternity rings. I once had a one carat eternity, I suffered from diamond shrinkage almost immediately. If you’re sure that you won’t tire of the one carat size, that would be my pick!

I like jewellery to look quite dainty, so I think 1ct would be the right size for me in terms of an eternity ring  especially if I'm wanting to wear it in the daytime too. I had originally considered a 2ct eternity ring, but I think it would be way too flashy for daytime, so wouldn't wear it as much.

Have you tried them on in store to see? 7 stone will provide you larger diamonds than the eternity band so it's quite the contrast between the 2 options. There's something about a way an eternity band sits on the hand vs a 5/7 stone that sings to me more.

I have an EC eternity band and its my absolute favorite so I say go eternity if youre confident in the size.

Another vote for an eternity ring, I think they are more sophisticated. But make sure the 1ct is what you want - the pictures above look like quite larger diamonds, and the 1ct will not look anywhere close to that.

I thought that too but I confirmed with the seller that it was in fact the 1ct  I looked at the 2ct too and there's a noticeable difference, so the one I posted is definitely 1ct. The width measures 2.4mm.

I think I am leaning towards the eternity band because I love the idea of the diamonds sparkling all the way around. I'm going to try them on soon, just trying to narrow down idea so I know what I'm looking for. If I'm thinking the 1ct is too small in store, I'll start looking at 2ct.

Agree with @papertiger , I have both eternity and half-eternity rings and I prefer half-eternity. Not only for comfort but also the convenience of being able to change size if my ring size grows or shrinks.

The bigger you go up in carat size for eternity rings, the more uncomfortable they get, they will push onto the adjacent fingers, and they tend to push and scrape on other rings if you plan on wearing rings on adjacent fingers. Though I suppose 1 carat for a a full eternity band is not too bad. And I do understand the feeling of wanting something uniform and complete!

Random: My husband finds eternity rings tasteless, especially if they're on the higher carat end, lol. But that's just him haha.

It's what suit your taste and style, but given the choice I'd go for bigger stones and more comfort.

I have a plat/diamond eternity ring and don't find it that comfortable to wear and worry about banging the stones.

Omg I didn't even think of this. I used to have an eternity ring in yellow gold and it was very uncomfortable, so I didn't wear it much. Thank you for the insight! maybe a 7 stone is the way to go.

Sometimes what we think we want changes after we actually get the item. I thought I wanted the 1 carat too until I realized it didn’t have enough presence. I’m just suggesting that you make sure that’s the carat weight you truly desire. I bought a 2 carat eternity and I’m pretty sure it’s my perfect size. It’s not too flash with my solitaire but it still large enough to wear by itself. Good luck with your decision.

I’d actually go for the 7 stone (biased because I have one as my wedding band) and because the stones will have more presence on your hand :graucho:

Eternity bands are pretty but you can’t resize them and there is the risk of chipping the stones that are on the bottom if you knock your hand on something hard repeatedly.

Try on as many rings as you can and let us know how you go :)

For your intended use, my vote is for the 7 stone band. It will have better presence as a stand alone ring vs. the 1ct eternity and still works as a stacker. For reference, here are some pics of my 1ctw eternity (approx. 2.4mm) and .84ctw 7 stone band (approx. 3.2mm). Ring size is 5.5-5.75 but I size up to 6 with eternities since resizing usually isn’t possible, which is something else to consider. GLD

Hi lovely, I’ve had a larger eternity band in the past and currently have a seven stone .75 ttcw ring in white gold - my vote would be for the seven stone  You get more bang for your buck with the size as all the stones will be much bigger by default and there are the advantages of it being leas likely to snag/bang against things and being able to resize it if necessary.

I’ve just bought a 1 carat half eternity (but nine stones instead of seven) in yellow gold from Iliana and can’t wait! Hoping it will be an alternative wedding band and that I can wear it on its own.

Can’t wait to see what you decide on!
