Was checking out the 1955 Horsebit large tote and I'm confused. Gucci's description reads "made from GG Supreme canvas" and the bullet points reads "Original GG canvas". From the pics I'm guessing it is of the original canvas and my question is...do you think Gucci has somehow fixed the canvas disaster of the Frida era? Maybe I was mistaken when I thought Gucci wouldn't dare repeat that mistake and I somehow feel let down. Are they really going to sell a bag for $2200 knowing it will die a slow death in a couple of years? I just loved that canvas and planned on keeping a couple of my canvas bags forever. I actually preferred it to leather and it killed me to hurry up and sell my entire collection before they showed the awful canvas blemishes that still makes me sad when I see one for sale all tore up looking. Coach, Fendi etal never had that canvas problem and not sure how Gucci dropped that ball somehow. Do I dare purchase this bag knowing the problem may still exist??623695_GY5OG_8563_002_085_0000_Light-Gucci-1955-Horsebit-large-tote-bag.jpg

What error are you talking about...wear? I have an old gg canvas hobo and wallet (not supreme) that I wore to death and finally did wear thru. I still have them but they are in bad shape. I haven’t seen a non-supreme canvas in years.
You could always buy and return if it’s not supreme.
Edit..I just looked on US website and it says original Gg canvas and does not say supreme. I would not buy based on my experience.

Could be that since it doesn't fold or go around corners it's a bit less liable to fray. Personally, since I owned an original GG fabric Jackie from early Frida era, I would never take the chance again.

Can you give further description of the problems with the original canvas?

OMG, where to start:

I had an original fabric Jackie. It's the only Gucci I gave away.

Picked up every colour it touched and wherever there was a fold it rubbed away the actual stitches. Naturally, wherever the rubs where, it started to fray too.

This post came just in time. Just saw the same tote today and am seriously considering it till I stuble upon this thread. Does anyome know whether the Fendi baguette will have this problem? I am considering between this, Fendi baguette and small Onthego. I am a mature lady. Which do you think is most versatile and more evergreen if size is not a deciding factor ?

You'd have to know the original fabric first. It could be different.

I still have the canvas hat which I don't wear as often so it hasn't shown wear. I also have a pair of loafers in this fabric which I haven't worn yet.

But the card holder I had before in the same material showed wear so quickly that I would refuse to get this fabric for a bag or wallet again.

I think its just canvas, not the supreme coated canvas....is this the the thats problematic?
I have an old hobo with the regular canvas. It was a fabulous light weight bag but I would never buy regular canvas again. It wore out. I posted photos somewhere on here. But I do not have knowledge of the canvas on the flora bag so I can’t say for sure.

Curious to know if any of you with the bad canvas experiences think this canvas Jackie might also have issues over time? Thanks so much for any feedback

NO, completely different material  Obviously, it's not going to be as hardy as coated canvas and choose fabrics wisely that it will rub against, but it won't be prone to rubbing/ fraying in the same way as the original sig fabric woven fabric..

In the 1980s there was sometimes a problem with runs to the Flora pattern and dye as people decided to wash the canvas with soap & water. If this is a newer one the dye is fast.
