my boyfriend and i went to tiffanys to pick out a promise ring for me ...we came up with a vs1 g color ring that was .19 carats in a tiffany setting for 1300 ... do you think it is worth it i really wanted to get a tiffany ring... do you think that i could get something better that has the same quality as tiffany...

how much would a cartier ring be of this same size?

thank you for your help

I think it's a good idea to get it from Tiffany because in 5 years if you guys wanna get married then you guys can get your engagement ring upgraded (as long as the price is doubled from your first ring). This is one of the factor why we got my engagement ring from Tiffany...

If you love it, then probably a good idea. but it sounds like there is a little doubt. I personally think Tiffany is overpriced, but then again I'm not yet engaged.

How long are you wearing this promise ring for and will you keep it once you have an engagement ring?

It depends, Is that alot of money for him to spend? If it is, maybe you should go to a mom and pop jewelry store, where you can get more bang for your buck, and the same quality, If its all about just the name Tiffany, then keep it, if its about the diamond also, get something bigger for the same price, and watch it sparkle in the sun ;)

if you get a promise ring that you like, then it can become your rhr after you get engaged.

or

buy a ring that looks like it can be used as a wedding band so that once you get your engagement ring, you won't have to buy a band anymore or you can use it for stacking.

as you can tell, i like to make sure my jewelery gets put to use.

Most reputable jewelers have a trade-up policy. I personally would spend where I got more for my money, but the Tiffany name is important to a lot of people. No one else can decide for you because it all depends on what matters to you.

I would save the money toward an engagement ring. I've never really understood what a promise ring is supposed to represent, or what the purpose of it is. Is it the current equivalency of 'going steady'? Or is it a pre-engagement type thing?

I agree 100%.

But, I also don't understand promise rings, really. I don't know- I think I'd wait and just put the money in an interest bearing savings account until you guys are ready to get engaged.

My "promise ring" was really just a "placeholder" for an actual engagement ring. It's one of my "real" wedding bands, as it's similar to that Tiffany Bezet band that just came out. I wear it in a stack occasionally and it's my most sentimental piece. Esp. now since I no longer have that engagement ring.

I think the idea of a promise ring is when the couple is young and still in school or getting started saving, but are planning to get engaged when they are in a better position to start planning a wedding.

Most promise rings I have seen usually have a teeeeeny little diamond, which is fine b/c of being young and starting out and all. It is a sweet senitiment. For the OP I would be concerned that $1300 is too high for this type of ring.

thanks guys!!! all the suggestions are right.... im 20 and so is my bf...i started thinking that 1300 for a promise ring is too much .....i going to look around see if i find something that will suit us more

it sounds adorable, is it platinum? the price for a platinum band isn't much less than the total price for your ring...so from that standpoint i don't think it is overpriced
