After watching the little clip on the links with the pendants swaying from side to side, I really like the pear. I like the way it hangs on a chain. It seems very feminine and interesting.

I see you tried on a round and liked it--have you tried on a pear? I get the impression you like the idea but have not tried one on.

I would definitely try it on before you buy, OR make sure that you can return w/o problems for full return(which I think you can at JA, but check).

I'm not a size girl and I think .25 round pendants look very nice--however I think this may not be a big enough pear considering pear is somewhat less sparkley and you kind of lose some presence because of the shape. I love pear pendants starting at about .50 and think .75 is perfect. But that's me. I don't know your body build and taste and a smaller pear may look great on you. However, as I said above, be sure that you can get rid of it if you don't like it.

i have a .25 round pendant and it's so elegant and totally the perfect every-day piece. i think in pear, you'd need to go bigger than .25

i personally don't like pear cut diamonds.

i heart pears!!! i have pears in my e-ring as side stones.. and i have tried on pear pendants they are stunning.. however i think in that carat weight they might not SHOW as a pear.. i dunno if that makes sense.. but i think in that carat weight it might just kind of look like a round kwim??? you should try going into tiffanys.. because they often have different carat weights of pear shaped pendants that you can try on.. and you can always ask them to bring in a few different sizes so you can see what it looks like on.

Thanks for the info ladies.

I'm looking at Blue Nile now for a pear and have narrowed it down to a 5.85 x 3.90mm pear which is .30ct. It's Very Good cut (Pears only go up to VG on Bluenile.com) SI1 and E color for $400. As opposed to JamesAllen's .25ct H/I color SI1 for $675 - this includes the 18K WG chain though.

Size wise, pear vs round. Visually round will look bigger. So upping to .30ct will somewhat help as a .25ct round usually has measurements diameter of 4-4.1mm if it's ideal.

My jeweler friend plans to make the pendant for me so I'm set as she'll give me good pricing regardless. I realize that it might not "show" too much as a pear because of it's size, but that's what I like about it. I won't get too bored too fast. Only when you get close can you see and it's just a teeny bit of pear sparkle for the everyday.

I've tried on pear pendants before (it was almost a half carat), and I really like them.

Sounds very nice.
Pears only go up to 'very good' anywhere. There is no 'ideal'.
You can phone Blue NIle and ask them to look at the pear to make sure it's eyeclean SI1. The sales reps will do that for you.
Also, here's the URL for cut grade estimator from AGA,which gives guidelines for perfect pears.

http://gemappraisers.com/oldcutgrade.asp

I once read that a pear with a depth of 61% would show less bowtie and also read to avoid extremely thin or extremely thick girdle, and go for polish and symmetry very good.

Hope this helps.

But remember your eyes are the final judge. And in my experience a stone does NOT have to be paper perfect to look gorgeous.
