Hi everyone!
I recently purchased a Mikimoto Pearl pendant in-store from a Mikimoto boutique. I haven’t seen many reviews for their pendants here, so thought I would start a thread with my thoughts.
I’ve been searching for quite a while for a white gold pendant and tried on a ton of different diamond solitaires. For reference, I own and enjoy the Cartier D’Amour pendant in yellow gold (though I find the diamond a bit too small), but the white gold one didn’t make my heart sing. I tried on a platinum DBTY and several white gold diamond pendants from local jewelry stores and Costco. None called to me.
I walked into a Mikimoto boutique for the first time recently and loved looking at the pieces. I finally decided to purchase a simple Pearl pendant to be able to wear casually and to work.
I learned the importance of looking at pearls in person! I asked the SA to bring out several pendants, and I chose one with a silvery overtone, A+ grade. The white gold chain is also diamond cut and very sparkly, similar in thickness to my D’Amour. Overall, very happy for the purchase, it was $1100USD plus tax.
Now for the cons. The clasp is one of the tiniest I’ve seen on a luxury pendant. I’m 45 and okay now, but I fear that as I get older, it will be difficult to put on and off. There is also no Mikimoto charm or anything to really show off the brand. It is adjustable at 16 and 18 inches, but the sizing loop at 16 inches is barely larger than the links on the chain! This is all quite disappointing for a luxury house. And this has nothing to do with the pendant itself, but when I asked to confirm that the chain and bail are rhodium plated (as they are indeed a very lovely shiny bright white color), 2 different SAs insisted that Mikimoto does not plate any jewelry. But when I called customer service, they confirmed that white gold pieces are rhodium plated. Very poor education from the SAs. They did say their pieces are nickel free too, I hope that’s the case but I have no irritation so far.
I’m not sure if their more expensive pendants have a nicer clasp or sizing loops, but clearly their lower price point items do not.
Anyway, I’m very happy for what this is, I love the color of the Pearl and think it’s a timeless elegant piece. But some details could make it so much better. Here are my pics (taken in natural daylight), thanks for letting me share!
