Hi everyone !

My SO will be speaking to a class and then doing a panel at his Alma mater and not that I’m of any importance here but I am going and would like to look nice when I meet people from his college days.

I don’t want to look like I’m going to the office but also not too casual and am having trouble thinking of something in between.

Should I just stay safe and go theory style - midi dress with low pumps ?

Thanks !

Sounds like an honor! In the US? East Coast, West coast, the south?

I tend to think as west coast being least formal and the south being the most formal.

In New England, I think slacks and a nice sweater or twin set should be dressy enough, even if there are cocktails in the evening. I personally fall back on charcoal or medium gray slacks and navy on top. Have fun!

ETA: if professors adhere to a dress code, then something along those lines  If, by the way,
You always gravitate to dresses or skirts, do what is most natural and comfy for you

Honestly, a midi dress with low pumps sounds like a safe and classy choice. If you’re feeling it, go for it. But if you want something a little more relaxed, nice slacks with a stylish top could work too.
