How do Hermes bags find themselves on the resale market?

I was perusing the Fashionphile website today to just see what they have for mini Kelly’s (long-term goal to get one so I occasionally look and contemplate).

While I was on the website, I saw a lot of unique bags like HSS, Kelly Doll Picto (3 of them!), Kelly en Desorde, and the mini Kelly with studs. I was so surprised and it got me wondering, how do these new season coveted bags that are either SO or blue box land on the resale market?

I know there’s the obvious answer of people buying just to resale or a style not suiting your lifestyle like you thought but my mind really wanders to the following questions -

1. If you sold your bag after buying it within the last year or two, why? Do you ever worry about your relationship if you get caught?
2. Does Hermes even track people who get these special offers to see if their purchases land on the resale market? How often are people really getting banned?
3. What would you consider a reasonable time frame to enjoy an Hermes handbag before reselling without raising a red flag to your SA that you’re not in it for the potential gains? (Not that I’d ever let go of my collection, but maybe I would in like 15+ years. I’d imagine most of my collection will need major spa treatment by that point too lol).

Recommendations for clean mascara, please

I got out of the habit of wearing make up in lockdown. I stayed a little longer than most people and now getting out and about more. I used to use Armani or Chanel mascara that I got at Barney’s. Yeah, that long ago. I recently got a mascara online that’s supposed to be all natural and clean, no chemicals, but my eyes have been watering all day. I’d love to have recommendations for a high-quality mascara that is “natural”.
Would love to know what you ladies are using these days.

Help choosing for my birthday: Chanel CF, Rolex or VCA?

My birthday is coming up and I’m having a hard time finding what to choose from my wish list:

- Rolex Datejust
- Chanel Classic Flap in Medium
- Van Cleef Arpels Alhambra Pendant in YG with Diamonds

I can only afford one for now and am having a hard time choosing which one to get. I have two Cartier bracelets and Cartier Panthere watch which I love but the Rolex is my dream watch. Same thing with the Chanel CF which is my holy grail hand bag. I have other YSL and Gucci handbags but they just fill a void for my Chanel CF which would also be my first ever Chanel bag. I was also thinking the VCA pendant since I don’t own any necklaces at all.

My partner and siblings suggest Rolex since they prefer jewelry over handbags and think $12K+ on a handbag is not worth it. I’m conflicted because I do want a Rolex but I also love the idea of getting my holy grail Chanel bag. Can anyone share their thoughts or recommendations? Is the price of the Chanel CF “worth” it or should I continue look towards the Rolex or a VCA Alhambra pendant?

Thanks in advance!

Asking a store to hold an item (don’t want to commit a faux pas!)

Has anyone ever put a deposit on an item to hold it until they could make it to the store? My husband and I are taking an anniversary trip overseas next month, and as a gift he suggested I pick out a right hand ring to mark the occasion. I’ve been browsing some of the antique and vintage jewelry stores at our destination, and came across a ring that I think could be perfect. So now I’m scared that it will sell before we get over there! I know I’d probably find something else, but this one is quite unique… so circling back to my question, do jewelry stores ever agree to hold an item? I wouldn’t mind paying some kind of fee or deposit, but I really want to see the item in person before making such a significant purchase. However, I also don’t want to put the shop owner off by asking if this is a completely crazy notion! Any thoughts or experiences welcome! Thanks!!

Puffiness of caviar coin purse

Hi All! It’s been a while since I’ve purchased a Chanel item so just wanted to see if anyone can chime in. Has the caviar leather changed? Is it less puffy? Specifically on small leather goods like coin purses?

I recently got a zipper coin purse and noticed the quilting isn’t very puffy. I searched for pictures online to compare and it seems there are some that are puffier than others but most of the puffier ones seem to be from years ago. I got the last one they had so not sure if what I got is “normal” or if I should try to exchange/return it.

SM Love Bracelet Issue

I purchased my SM Love bracelet in May of this year. A week after owning it, I looked down and noticed it popped apart enough to have a very visible gap. I kept having to occasionally pop it back together.

I spoke to my SA regarding this and she recommended I send it in to be repaired. It was there longer than I had owned it! I got it back about a month later in mid June.

Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago it started doing it again, It has since happened at least 5 times in those 2 weeks. I messaged my SA again and she said that we can send it in for repair again. Honestly I told her that I think it should be replaced with a new one. I feel very frustrated that this is happening to a brand new bracelet and I should not be having to send a brand new bracelet in for repair for the second time.

Has anybody experienced anything like this?

First Fendi, Huge disappointment

My boyfriend bought me a Fendi mini baguette in Karung effect for my birthday and I just got it. I’m extremely disappointed. I had him return an Hermes herbag for this bag and I feel scammed.
The photo and description on the website state: “Iconic mini Baguette bag entirely covered in green, white and brown sequins, creating a trompe l'oeil effect that simulates the natural markings of karung leather.”
So the bag is supposed to be made out of green, white and brown sequins mimicking snakeskin.

Has anyone tried the brand Yeprem

Hi everyone! I came across this jewelery brand on net a porter called Yeprem. Really high quality (high color high clarity) natural diamonds at a much more reasonable cost than most luxury brands and really pretty designs. But I don’t know anyone that owns pieces from them and my city does not have a boutique that carries them. Has anyone seen these in person?

Vintage Exotic Bag - CITES & Spa?

Hi ladies & gentlemen,

I’m based in the U.S. I just saw quite possibly the most beautiful vintage bag I’ve ever seen for sale on a U.S. resale site and impulsively pulled the trigger and made the purchase.

It’s a vintage Kelly 28, Shiny Alligator in Rouge H color, with gold hardware.

The listing did not mention it coming with a CITES certificate, which I believe I would need to have if I ever wanted to travel out of the country with the bag.

The listing photos also show some fading of the Rouge H color in some of the “cracks” between the alligator scales on the bottom corners of the bag and on the clochette string (the fading makes the red look lighter and more pinkish/orangeish in those areas).

My two questions for you are:

1) Will the Hermes boutique be able to issue me a new CITES certificate that would permit me to travel outside of the country on vacation with my vintage bag?

2) Will the Hermes spa be able to work its paint color magic to make the faded pink/orange-looking cracks look like the Rouge H color again?

Many thanks in advance for your wisdom and guidance on these matters based on your own experiences and observations over the years!

B30 in Noir or B25 in fun color?

Keep or sell?

  • Keep B30 in Noir

I've had my Birkin 30 in Noir with Palladium Hardware for a few years now. I bought it on the resale market and it went away to spa for about 9+ months, getting the hardware, sangles, and even the handles all replaced, making her basically sparkling shiny and new. Because of the condition I was able to get her for a "reasonable" price given resale prices + the cost of the repairs.

However, I'm 5 ft, size 4 - I'm small. I find I rarely use the B30 because it just overwhelms me. I never need to carry that much stuff. I have a car, I live in LA County and we drive everywhere. I really truly do not need a 30 size worth of stuff with me.

If I were to sell the B30 I could basically afford a specific B25 in a non-popular color (but still a color I really enjoy that I have my eyes on) in a near 1:1 swap. I can already see myself (imagining, if you will) carrying this B25 eeeeverywhere because that's my preferred bag size and it would be totally reasonable for my size/lifestyle and even though it's a pop of color, it's an unusual neutral in my eyes.

My biggest concern is that would I be silly to get rid of a bag so classic as a B30 Noir for a fun pop of color but in the better size for my lifestyle? Has anyone ever "grown into" a 30 size and appreciated the more space? Should I just keep the B30, even if I only use it rarely on the chance later in life I will wish I had kept it? Need advice!

Mini constance, mini bolide or mini roulis?

What are your opinions about the 3 bags: mini constance, roulis, bolide? I have a pretty casual lifestyle so I just want something that can be dressy for say 1 cocktail event a year but versatile enough to grab and go to some nice dinner or outings. I don't intend to get B/K at all and have a small number of bags that I just get a lot of use from (in fact, I sold my Saint Laurent Loulou bag because I do not use it much)... Would love to get your views. Thanks!

Neverfull MM cinched

Hi everyone!!! Can someone help me with cinching my Neverfull MM? I bought her 2 years ago when my Dad passed away and haven’t used her because she was to be a work purse and I wound up not going to work! She’s too big for my daily use now but I feel bad letting her sit in my purse cabinet never worn! I decided to take her out for a spin today and cinch her to make her smaller which fits me perfectly now BUT I took my wallet out to make a purchase and she uncinched! Is there a way to keep her cinched or am I just stupid and can’t figure it out??? Thanks in advance!IMG_5926.pngIMG_5925.png

I never followed him too closely and was low key surprised about the baby news. But things just keep getting messier for him.

Alternatives to VCA (based on poor stock and shopping experience)

Dear ladies and gents of the forum,

thought I'd start a discussion around this topic as it seems to be luring browsing around existing threads (mods, sorry if I missed one!).

I own a vintage Alhambra white MOP (20 + 5 motifs + earrings) and the two-butterfly pendant also in white MOP. I got everything apart from the 5 motif a few years ago, pre-COVID i.e. before VCA went "viral", so I was quite shocked at how the shopping experience for the 5 motif had changed. As I hadn't purchased anything for 3-4 years I didn't really have a SA when I started looking into the 5 motif this year, and they didn't seem impressed by my purchasing history (in fact they didn't even check it) so I had to start from a clean slate sort to say... with mixed experiences over a few visits trying to track it down, SAs treating me from disinterested to dismissively (No, we don't have it in stock and pfff we don't know when it will come / come back again in a few days or weeks and you might get lucky, etc). I never pushed it to make a reservation because I really don't like the approach (even if I was quite "locked-in" or committed to get the piece to complete the set!) until one day they finally had it as a walk-in. Wonderful.

Fast forward a few months and now I'm looking for a special gift for a "round" birthday so went to the boutique to check out a few pieces. A lovely new SA who used to work at Hermes was assigned to me. I wanted to see the new agate earrings (launched on a Mon, went to the boutique on the Thu) = sold out. Pave earrings? not in stock. Frivole small earrings, pave or gold? nope. She did her best to show me some pieces but it was really hard as none of the pieces I was interested into were in stock. Then came the shocking part (to me at least) where she went to ask her manager as I pushed to be allowed to try on the agate earrings on the window and she came back with the news that 1) no, I could not try the earrings and 2) any piece they ordered in for me to try on would require a full deposit.

Whaaaat. This is, to me, a total no-go. It creates this lock-in effect whereas, even if you can reject the piece and walk away with your hard earned money or choose something else, you're likely going to keep the piece just because it was so hard to get. It really doesn't resonate well with my values. In addition, the fact that I now see VCA Alhambra (or dupes) everywhere all the time where I live has made me question what do I appreciate or treasure about the brand. Is it the craftsmanship? the materials? the exclusivity? the design? the shopping experience?

For me it's about the feminine designs, premium materials and yes, the shopping experience. From these criteria alone I'd say VCA is not differentiated enough. I found nice floral designs elsewhere, with better materials (semi-precious stones and/or diamonds) at a better price point with the same premium experience.

These are my findings. Haven't committed to anything and I'm still open to going back to VCA if I find something I really cannot live without (but hard to get that heart-stopping moment from browsing their website alone)

How do you feel about shopping around other brands as VCA alternatives?

From left to right:

1) Pasquale Bruni Figlia dei Fiori earrings with London blue topaz (7.3 ct) & diamonds (0.15 ct)
2) Pasquale Bruni Ton Joli earrings with Turquoise (6.25ct) and moonstone
3) Gübelin Lily earrings in RG with pink sapphire cabochon (0.7ct), diamonds (0.4 ct) and their signature tiny ruby. They have this model in three sizes, this is the medium one.
4) detailed pics for comparison with vintage alhambra.

I like that the cabochons give all three earrings a 3D feeling lacking in the Alhambra line. I'm also waiting to try on the Ton Joli earrings in Lapis Lazuli, they will be brought in from another branch at no cost :-)
