Post your Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions!

I also found her channel recently and I greatly appreciate her collection and dedication to finding and maintaining the pieces.
She said in one of her videos that she doesn't use all of her bags, she buys them to collect.

Would you say the same about people who buy pieces of art? That they are stuck up because they aren't wearing their paintings?
What about people owning multiple properties? You can only sleep in one at a time.

I have a handful of items I've not used or use very rarely but still love them and wouldn't get rid of them.
Where is the line between "extreme overconsumption" and appreciation?

You still gave her a view. And if you disliked it, you still engaged with the video.

Her collection is a drop in a bucket compared to what some really wealthy people collect.
I don't believe anyone said she was stuck up.

It's not that she's a collector. I've watched her for over a year now, and I've gotten tired of her saying she's a VIP and trying to prove how important she is too the brands. It's really not about the handbags at all that make it seem like something is going on beyond collecting.

Came here looking to see if anyone has thoughts on YouTuber Living Lux with Meredith. At first, I loved all the bag eye candy. After watching for a year, I've started to be irritated by her. I feel like she's saying over and over that she's a VIP to these brands and look what they gave her and look where they invited her, etc, etc. She does seem to really love bags but I've started to feel like she's actually just trying to buy standing in the customer ranks. It doesn't appear she spends money in any other part of her life. Anyone else getting rubbed the wrong way?

My unpopular opinions

1) You cannot judge someone by their bag, watch, jewelry, car, etc. Rules like you can only have so much bag to so much car are silly. It’s insane to feel a person only can have nice things if they live in a big city to “impress” others.

People have different priorities. I don’t give a hoot about cars and will drive mine til it begs to be put down. But, I have beautiful homes and a beautiful jewelry collection. I buy my things to please me - not show them off. My choices - not a capacity issue.

Happily some truly judgmental people outed themselves with their comments. I’ll never have to read any more of the mean girling because I put them on “ignore” . :blah: I enjoy debate, but can’t tolerate mean spirited judgement. I mean thinking a mom is an escort because she’s different??? Gross.

2) I can’t stand ostrich skin. I agree with the comments that say it looks like sores. Eek! 🫣

3) I don’t care for LV’s canvas patterns.

4) I would be happiest if every logo disappeared and bags had truly unique and inspired designs.

5) I will easily spend $xx,xxx figures on a new jewelry piece. But, I am fading on seeing the worth in $x,xxx handbags because designs are getting more and more boring while quality is slipping. LVMH et al can keep their super inflated bags.

6) If everyone buys it, I don’t want it because I get visual fatigue. It’s why I have to have variety in my own collection. I hate wearing the same bag(s) over and over.

7) If Hermes bags had contemporary pricing the desire for them would drop my 80%. The designs are just not great and are no longer unique.

8) I still like the dangly Dior charm!

9) I feel like an idiot for owning Chanel bags that I’m not in love with. But, I can’t bring myself to sell them just yet.

10) Mini bags were created by the same sadists who refuse to put pockets in women’s clothing and refuse to design beautiful high heels with the engineering to be comfortable (which is completely possible.)

This one is going to ruffle some feathers. Ok. Here it goes…I still love my LV Verona MM I bought in 2011. It’s a tank and has worn so well. Admittedly, it’s now in light rotation because I have several other bags, but I can’t believe how well it’s held up. I know this is a much maligned bag on here that’s never been popular. I’ve read the threads.

Just had to comment on this - this YouTuber made an offhand comment that in 2019, she couldn’t afford a $5k keepall bag from a particular collection.

Suddenly she’s got a collection worth over $1m, and VIP at LV and Hermes.

To me the timing adds up to COVID profiteer and I won’t be giving her a single watch after that, not even a hate watch. You don’t go from not affording a $5k bag to “over four hundred luxury handbags” over the course of a global pandemic unless you profited massively from it in some way.
I have been trying to figure out what's up with her for a year! Your theory is excellent! 🤯

(Just my personal biases)

-I am happy to own every luxury and contemporary brands in my closet except for only 2 brands (sorry if I offend any who love those two, just my personal bias)

1) Gucci: this is due to my internalized projection toward a co-worker who wore Gucci bags and shoes head to toe and she would negatively critique all other brands to our faces. We used to call her ‘Miss Thing’ behind her back.
Though she no longer works with me, to this day i am reminded of her when I see the Gucci logo.

2)Dior: I tried to convince myself that I ‘needed’ a Lady Dior in my life but it is ‘too fussy’ for my unfussy lifestyle these days. I loved how it looked on Princess Diana but I cannot carry it off like her.
Also the shape of their saddle bag just looks….odd to me. I just can’t.

Edit: A lot of baggage (literally and figuratively;)
At the end of the day, it’s just stuff like @Nibb says !

I've been debating whether or not to post here, but I find the topic of this thread interesting. Please know that these are simply my own personal opinions and I mean no offense to anyone who may have different options, taste, or style than me. Different strokes for different folks as they say and that is what makes the world interesting, so my intent is merely to participate and do so with all due respect to all posters and members of TPF community. Here goes:

1. While most seem to think black is the most "classic" handbag color, I personally find it a bit boring. I know there are many women who own many black bags and that's their thing but I only have about 5 black bags in my collection, representing a very small %.

2. I am not a fan of caviar, pebbled, or other textured leather (with the exception of Saffiano leather). I know many like or ever prefer these textured leathers and believe they are more durable or wear better but I really like the look of smooth leather like lambskin, soft calfskin, or box calfskin.

3. I don't believe the quality of many high-end brands aligns with their pricing. For example, I have had melting glazing issues on Louis Vuitton bags more than once, zipper pulls fall off on brand new bags, strap break off on Fendi tote, stitching come undone on Valentino, etc. Please note I tend to use my bags very infrequently and also tend to baby them and use caution when I do use them. That being said, I have many bags that have had no issues at all, but some of what factored into this comment also comes from posts I have read here regarding quality issues (even on brand new bags) others have experienced.

4. I don't care how good the "quality" of certain bags may be, I cannot get my head around paying as much for a single handbag as some cars cost. That being said, I am probably only fooling myself as I have spent as much or more buying several bags that cost several thousand at a time, but I suppose I justify the quantity/variety that way. Or maybe leaving myself something to keep as a long-term goal one day?

5. I know Chanel is a super popular and sought after brand, but with only a couple of exceptions, I think all of their designs basically look the same and all look "old lady" to me. I know they are popular with all ages these days, but for whatever reason, I still associate the quilted look and overall style with "rich old lady." Maybe this has to do with where I live but that's the vibe I get. One exception is the Chanel 22, which is likely another unpopular opinion on its own as it received a lot of hate when new, but this is the one Chanel bag on my wish list.

6. Another popular bag I just don't understand all the hype about is the Loewe puzzle. I know many people rave about this bag but I personally don't find the design attractive at all. There is nothing compelling about it in my opinion, in fact, I can't quite put my finger on it but I find something about it off-putting.

7. Last but not least, I do not buy into this whole "quiet luxury" concept. I think everyone should buy what they like. I have some bags that are plain/simple, some that are loud, some that have logos, some that don't; they all just appealed to me at the time for whatever reason. I think that many brands people think are quiet luxury are just as identifiable by others who are in the know. And I think a lot of the reason for purchasing is the same as those who buy "loud" luxury or logomania type designs. Otherwise, if they really didn't care about branding, there are plenty of high-quality leather goods, knit clothing, etc. with no name brand as options.

I'm going to piggy-back off Point 1 (and I quoted 6 because I don't get the Puzzle.)

I think a cinnamon brown / caramel brown bag is more versatile than black. I don't love black in the summer / spring weather and a Classic Flap in Black/G/SHW drags down like, floral dresses.

I agree with all.

I would add:

Black bags can be stunning but require truly great design to reach that high water mark. For me black bags are a trusty neutral - not a fashion show stopper.

I also don’t get the puzzle. I just don’t care for the look of the bag. It looks like it was made of scraps.

And the “quiet luxury” trend makes me want to tear my eyelashes out. I don’t desire to ape a fake aesthetic of people I don’t know. It’s perfect fine to like more sedate or classic items and also perfectly fine to like embellished, logoed items. Neither is “superior”. They’re all just style choices.
