Anyone purchased a new laptop recently? I need one. My old compaq has lasted awhile, but is getting to be just too big and slow. I'd really like a small and portable one. I've been looking at these lately:

Any other suggestions of small, lightweight (ideally CHEAP, lol) laptops?
Thanks:biggrin:

The bank I work in uses IBM ThinkPads.

Have you decided on a laptop bag yet, MandM?

If you haven't, what do you think about this?

if you're looking for the cheapest deals, I would go with a Toshiba or a Dell. Mac's and Sony's are prettiest IMO, but you're definitely paying for the looks (plus quality) with their prices.

Here are some other deals you might try:
Toshiba Satellite M55-S1001, 14" Widescreen, Celeron M, 256MB SDRAM, 60GB HD, DVD/CDRW for $499 (after $150 mail-in-rebate)

Dell XPS M140, Pentium M, 512MB SDRAM, 60GB HD, DVD+-RW andCDRW for $649

Sony Vaio VGN-FJ170PB, 14.1" Screen, Pentium M, 512MB DDR, 100GB HD, DVD+-RW andCDRW for $1349 shipped

HTH!

I have an iBook and I absolutely love it. Its small, light, and very dependable. If you can afford the Powerbook or Macbook then that would be even better, but if not, I definately recomment the ibook.

I just bought a 12" apple PowerBook, and I'm superhappy with it! It looks really nice, and mac os X is really user-friendly, so no complaints here ;) (although I'd go for more RAM if I had some more time - I bought it 20 minutes before I had to take a train). I don't know how much it's in the US, but I paid some $2500+ for it here, so the price is quite stiff, but lots of those are taxes as far as I know. If you want to go for quality I'd recommend the thinkpad x60. It's about the same size as the 12" powerbook, but not as nice looking, but it's really good. I think they are somewhat more expensive than macs, but as far as I know they last for a good while too. Good luck with your purchase no matter what you go for!

i'm gonna get the ibook this summer because i think they will have a nano giveaway like last summer when they had the mini giveaway. i've already chosen a juicy messenger bag & sleeve cover that i want!
