Kind of Leather you like for your bag

I loooove feeling leather, especially the soft to semi-soft, thick, fine grain ones that can take a scuffing and still look great after a scrub with a mosturizer and a good polish. I once put a vintage Gucci to the sink, washed it with saddlesoap and detergent, dried it, ironed inside and out, moisturized, polished, and when it was all dry you wouldn't know what it had been through. :PI think it's similar to the kind used to make horseback riding boots.

At the moment I'm also trying to learn about exotic leathers. Does anyone here know how to tell the difference between crocodile and alligator?
I always get them mixed up, but I think the difference between alligator and croc is with the size of the scales.
