Do you monitor what your children look at on the internet?

Can I just say that I love youtube? Yes, it can show some horrible things, but it can also show some funny things! The key is to use it in the right way.

I don't have kids, so I never really thought of it before, but Youtube is like an online video store. You wouldn't give your kids free reign in the video store, would you? It's the same thing with Youtube.

No, children should not be watching videos of autopsies, Nazis or violent things. But Youtube also has clips of The Simpsons and Family guy and Monty Python.

Oh, and if you're looking for sites to keep away from your kids, don't ever let them look at ogrish.com. It shows autopsy pictures as well as bizarre and gruesome deaths. (For the love of God it even shows video clips!)

There is an option to flag offensive material. Some things can't be viewed unless you have a user name and an account. Sometimes things are so offensive, that the site removes them.

Maybe you can make a rule that they can't go on that site without you there. (Or they have to send you whatever video clip they decide to watch).

And to add, those videos don't just show up. You actually have to go searching for them. So if your children never search for Nazis or autopsies, I doubt you'll have much of a problem.

I am not a parent, but I have a 12 year-old brother who uses the net. I always check on him, when my parents are not home. He never uses the computer without someone being home. My parents have talked to him about what websites to view and all, and thank goodness he does obey! He has only been on youtube twice, with me being present! He looked at some pokemon things, but I think youtube it is not that bad. You see ugly things if you looked them up, but other than that I enjoy looking at youtube for music videos.

Yes their computer is in my room so i can see what they're doing. I've been trying several trail programs to see what works best and so far out of msn explorerand yahoo) setting parental controls, and net nanny.
its by far the best.

I'm going to purchase the full version

My girls get on the computer in my room so that I can watch what they are doing. My middle daughter loves Neopets and that's where she goes most of the time. I won't let her have a myspace yet, I'm just not comfortable with her having one. Our oldest daughter just turned 21, has her own laptop and she stays in her bedroom with hers but I told her to put her myspace on private so that's what she did. Our youngest daughter gets online but not as much as the other two. We can never be too safe with them.

Youtube is one of the greatest things ever! I use it to watch all different things like Gilmore Girls & Daily Show episodes that I missed, old interviews with favorite celebrities and all sorts of fun stuff-none of which include nazi propaganda or dead babies.

Youtube is not evil, just like the internet is not evil. Like others have pointed out, you have to search for those videos, just like you have to search out porn. Debbie does Dallas does not pop up when I log on to the Internet, nor does it pop up when I log on to Youtube.

Youtube does a really good job of censoring the bad stuff. Most of the bad stuff comes with a warning saying that if you aren't 18 you shouldn't view the following page. You have to actively click the okay. If your child hits the okay-that's not Youtubes fault as much as it is a decisioin of your child's to view that content.

I use You Tube to find recaps of The Daily Show and my favorite TV moments. There are also great animal videos that owners take of their pets. I don't think it's ALL bad.

My 6 year old has used the internet for a couple years but mostly to go on Toysrus.com and NickJr. I'm in the room with her while she uses it.
