DB AWL 3.0

It looks really nice. How is the strap? Is it sturdy canvas? Do you have any original AWL bags, if so, how does the AWL 3.0 feel compared to it?
Thank you, Kitty. Yes the strap is the sturdy. It's the same strap used with the Tocana satchels. I may be wrong but I think it's nylon - but not the super slick kind. Super comfortable. I do have a AWL drawstring from a few years back (see pic). This bag's leather does feel thinner than the drawstring but it's all good.

Progress and technology???? As manufacturers come out with new
collections they often promote 'advantages' to customers.... elements
they have changed at customer request. It happens in all industries.

It makes me wonder..... did they make the handbags lighter because
we did complain they were too heavy or have they used newer
technology to reduce costs and as a benefit produce a lighter handbag?
Am I too cynical?

If the leather is now tumbled or stretched and that makes it lighter or
softer, both customer benefits, does it also cost less to produce the handbag
since the volume of leather needed, and possibly the grade/thickness, is lower
than before? And if they emboss the leather rather than shrinking it to
give it a pebbled texture does the customer realize some of the properties
of the original leather they valued aren't present in the 'new and improved'
version? We might have had lots of info on the earlier collections, but newer
collections are often strong on marketing info and light of techincal info.
And does anyone care anymore? Do you want to know the specifications on the
leather you are buying? Am I alone on geek island?

I posted a video in this thread last week, go back 1 page. It’s a recent video too. The YT’er bought the AWL 3.0 satchel, and while she didn’t review it, it was an unboxing. A few things stood out to me, no feet, key holder, said it felt thinner than OG AWL, and the measurements. It does look small. I’ve been going back & forth on this collection because of the online reviews.

I don’t think you’re being cynical. While Dooney has a loyal customer base, there’s some notible issues that could hurt them in the long run. They seriously need to overhaul their online content, in that making sure the measurements are correct, describe the interior pocket situation, show the actual colors of their items - too many times their blacks look blue. And in many reviews, people have complained that the colors are either darker or lighter than expected. Since Dooney stores are far and few in between, with many items being online exclusive, this is imperative for customers purchasing $200+ items from them. And when something is not as described, like measurements, the customer should NOT be charged return shipping.

And people do want to know about the leather that’s used for said collection, as well as care instructions. I think it’s wild to sell leather bags that can blister if they get wet.

So y’all mom was digging I. Her closer and found an old school awl Dooney from the late 80’s. She forgot she had it. I remember her with this purse. I guess it’s a belt bag? I’ll ask for the identification in the forum.
Amazing what treasures are lurking in the back of the closet.
I hope that either you or she will be able to enjoy the bag now that
it has been 'discovered'.

I told her not to give it away. I’m sure she can pull it out during the summer. She found her Fendi monogram, don’t know the stylle, and many vintage coach bags that I have given her over the years… she has given many away and I asked her not to give away anything else until I can inventory what’s left. She has forgotten what she has deep in the bowels of the closet.

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

What an amazing find! Put some conditioner on it, and she’s good to wear it.

TELL HER I LOVE IT!

It’s a belt bag from the Calvary line. Let me get you the catalogue pic of it.

Yes, please tell her not to give anything away right now. We can help you identify the model and (approx) year of the bag.

She’s digging out some real gems in her closet.

Thank you. do I put conditioner on just the trim or the whole thing?
I'm not an expert, but if it's really All Weather Leather, don't put any
conditioner or oils on the pebbled AWL areas. Just use the conditioner on the
smooth leather trim. Original AWL was made by shrinking the leather
to close the pores. Using conditioner will relax the pebbles and can change
the look of the bag and also interfere with the water resistancy, according
to Dooney.
