Ford plans to sell a production version of the Verve in both the U.S. and Europe. It will slot in below the Focus in the company's model line and shows Ford serious about small cars again.

Opel's Flextreme concept car uses a hybrid powerplant that includes an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery that is charged by a diesel engine. It is designed to go 55 kilometers (34 miles) on battery power alone.

While in the U.S. crossover SUVs are all the rage, wagons remain popular in Europe and there were several expected to be shown in Frankfurt. Audi added two turbochargers to its top-of-the-line V-10 engine to create the RS6 Avant with around 580 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz introduced a wagon or "Estate" version of its recently revamped C-Class sedan. The top model will be an AMG tuned version with a 457 horsepower V-8 engine.

Another "global car" is Audi's A4, which has been redesigned for 2008 with new exterior and interior styling. The A4 will come as either a sedan or wagon and hit the European market next month.

BMW calls the X6 a Sport Activity Coupe that combines the styling of its X3 and X5 SUVs with the look of its coupes. The concept also has a hybrid powertrain.
 
Oh, and I never thought I'd combine the words, "god awful" and "Lamborghini" in the same sentence. But the latest offering is making me rethink.
