Toronto: Where to visit/shop, etc.

Hi all,

Hubby, the dog, & I are planning a trip to Toronto for US Thanksgiving. We'll be driving and are planning on staying downtown (somewhere near Eaton Centre).
Last time was in Toronto to sightsee was about 12 years ago when I was 16.

So ladies to my north (in my lovely homeland) what should hubby & I do?

I already know about CN Tower and the Hockey Hall of Fame. We're going to try to get tickets to a Maple Leafs game.

Shopping: What stores are there and where to go (I know about Eaton Centre...looking more high end)? Any outlet malls nearby?

Gambling: Any casinos close to the city?

Plays/musicals: Is there anything currently running in Toronto right now?

Until the gals from Toronto come along for really good ideas, I recall that Bloor Street is where the high end shopping is. It's a little n. of city center.

Ahhh The Bay! They switched most of the ones in my hometown (which I visit every year) to Zeller's.

Torontonian girls: What shops will I find on Bloor Street? What designer brands does Holt Renfrew carry? Will I find SFAM and Juicy, etc. at these stores?

I walked from Bloor up to the Eaton Centre once by Yonge St..I think that took about 20 minutes (?)
I would suggest you take a cab though, unless the weather is nice & you're carrying no shopping bags ;)

Be sure and bring a current rabies certificate for your dog or they won't allow it across the border into Canada. Also, any dog foods containing beef products are not allowed as well.

Thanks Roo...we were planning our annual trip to Canada for Christmas to visit the parents....and was going to get the dogs shots done in December (he is due for his 1 year rabies pretty soon)....now I'm going to bump it up to November.
As for the food...wow I didn't know that. I'll have to check the ingredients in his dog food...and possibly not bring any and buy it once we cross the border.

twiggers, good call on not walking from the Eaton Centre to Bloor. That's about 30 minutes and not a very exciting walk either. I say, take the cab or the short subway ride!

For tourist attractions, there's the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Bata Shoe Museum. All are located downtown or just a short cab ride away!

For Leaf tickets, you'll likely have a hard time getting them unless you happen to know season ticket holders. Your best bet might be the scalpers outside the Air Canada Centre on game night!

Shopping in Yorkville is a MUST if you're looking for high-end. There are outlet malls in the Toronto area, including Holt Renfrew Last Call stores, but you'd have to drive to them. It's probably not going to be worth it for you, but that depends on if you're renting a car and how long you plan on visiting.

The closest casinos are Casino Rama or the casinos in Niagara Falls (which is a great day trip when you're visiting Toronto btw). Both are I think about 2 hours away from the downtown core.

We have GREAT theatre in Toronto! During the time that you're planning on coming, we should have Wicked and Chicago both running. Check out mirvish.com for info and tickets. I have tickets to both!!!

You didn't ask about restaurants, but we have lots of amazing, authentic food from all over the world in Toronto!!! For yummy restaurants to go to, check out toronto.com, Toronto restaurants, events, hotels, movies and attractions.
