Hi everyone,

has anyone had a croc embossed YSL bag for long enough to comment on its quality? I have heard somewhere that people say YSL’s shiny croc is indestructible, but at the same time isn’t it patent leather? From my understanding patent leather is more high maintenance than normal calf leather because it catches color transfer more easily, and the patent tends to break down over time and become sticky. Can someone comment if the YSL croc leather actually holds up with time? Thank you:P

I do! A mini top-handle Cassandra in black croc-embossed leather! I've had mine for 2 years, not sure if that is long enough. However, I have never had any issues with it.
I've actually dropped Chinese food on it while eating (yes, I'm clumsy haha) and was able to wipe it clean without any issues.

When I store it, it sits on a shelf on top of its dust bag and not touching any bags. I think that's the main issue with patent leather, is that when it touches something for long periods of time, there can be color transfer. Especially in a more hot and humid climate. (I live in dry California, and my bags are in a cool area of the house so that is not an issue)

I also think the stitching and thickness of patent leather plays apart in how delicate or how high-maintenance it can be.
The Dior patent leather bags are known to stick to other things or get color transfer. However, Dior's patent leather is more plush and thick (from my memory), especially with that quilted stitching, and I believe that softness contributes to how potentially high-maintenance it can be.
The Cassandra in croc-embossed leather is very flat leather. It definitely has that lovely croc texture, but the overall surface is more stiff and flat. That stiffness gives it a lot of structure, it will not soften and stretch out, and it has feet, so not even the bottom of the bag can bend down to touch anything.

Hope that helps!

Thank you that helps a lot! Peoples experiences with Dior patent bags made me really vary of all patent bags so that’s good to hear YSL’s leather is holding up. I live in Canada where it’s incredibly dry in the winter but really hot and humid in the summer. Have you experienced any “stickiness” with your croc leather or is it still as good as new. Thank you!!

Nope, no stickiness at all (so far, lol). I actually have more of an issue with dust settling on my bag  because it's more of an evening bag and doesn't get as much use as my other bags lol.
