VENT: Well, I am super bummed!
Handbag was purchased in late September 2022, by my sis who gave it to me in October. I thought I would use it more since I hedged my bets on the dark beige color instead of the more tan/caramel color handbag, thinking I'd use it more year round. Anyway, first week of April I spotted this! after only a few wears (maybe a dozen??) Does anyone have experience with getting a repair done with YSL? Since it was past 30 days, no return. It's currently waiting to be reviewed for repair and estimate cost. Then I was told it'd be 6-7 months wait (even though the receipt says repairs are 3 months max). right in the prime time of when I would be using it (spring/summer). YSL will literally have the bag longer in repair than what I've owned it for :(
does anyone have experience with actual wait time? cost? what if they can't repair???!!!

I've had RTW repairs and replacements done at YSL but never bags.

I buy from my YSL boutique and my SA said, repairs for bags are free within 2 years of purchase, after that, expect a fee for a repair.

From my experience with luxury items, sending an item for repair can take anywhere from 1-8 weeks depend on how extensive the repair is and how backed-up the workshop is. (and it also depends on location).

I've had damaged RTW replaced with brand new clothes on the spot, I've also had RTW sent in for repairs and come back in 1-2 weeks. However, I do have a long purchase history with my local store and have a relatively good relationship with my SA and the store managers.

If your sister bought it at department store, then I don't know.

she purchased it for me in Paris. I guess I will hope for the best for now. TY!

I am so sorry you’re having to deal with this - that visual is absolutely horrifying. I completely agree with Purseloco, in that it should be replaced by YSL. Hopefully CS will come back to you with a more favorable resolution than a 6-7 month long repair time. I would not go quietly on this one...I’d bring it into the store from which your sister made the purchase…send emails with these photos to whomever will listen...this is NOT what’s supposed to happen to a luxury bag you’ve had for 7 months. I’m know that I’m really not offering much helpful information, I just wanted to voice my support, and hope that YSL gets to the right answer.

ETA. Ugh. Just saw that it was purchased in Paris…I’d send them emails with photos, and I’d go into a local boutique (assuming there is one near you…)

How did your sister pay for the bag? I’d try contacting the credit card company (provided that’s how she paid), and see what they have to say…

Thank you. Yes, i freaked when I saw it and took it in to my local boutique the next day. I had to sit I was starting to feel nausea when I was there. I know it sounds ridiculous but spending that much money for that to happen... ugh! I even took receipt in with me. 3 weeks after I went to the boutique i received an email from the store saying that the repair shop the East coast would like to see it in person (not just photos) to gage the damage and estimation for repair if any. which was odd because I thought they were already sending it out 3 weeks ago. I tried to ask the associate what are my other options (hint: i prefer a replacement) but she would discuss it at the time. only we'll see what the repair shop says.

I be never tried this, but I thought someone posted here that chase sapphire or Amex actually covers recent purchases. Im sorry this happened to you. Not sure if a U.S. local boutique will replace since it was purchased in Paris, but ysl corporate should .

Feeling nauseous doesn‘t sound ridiculous at all - I would have felt exactly the same way. It’s disgraceful that they wasted 3 weeks, and just had your bag sitting around, when it should have been sent out for inspection. Fingers crossed that repairs will come back with a more acceptable resolution, but in the meantime, I would definitely contact the credit card company used for purchasing. Better to get something on record with them, and hopefully they can help you out, if YSL won’t… Wishing you lots of luck..please update us along the way, if you wouldn’t mind.

UPDATE: This past weekend I heard back and was offered "an exchange/merchandise credit to replace your bag"! I wave of relief washed over me. Then questions and concerns came in later. this bag is by far the most structured (and most expensive) I own. What if this happens again?!! I went in store and was given the following options:

1. EXACT replacement (style/color/HW)
2. Credit of cost of bag at the time of purchase :
purchased in Paris (1950 Euro-VAT 15% estimate=1657Euro or $1550ish USD store credit). I'm assuming they deducted the VAT; that's the only reason I can think of why the credit is so low. I distinctly recall my wish list spreadsheet in trying to figure out what I'd actually spend money on LOL
Still, I paid much less than I would have in USA, add to that there has already been a price increases. The bag currently sells for $2,950USD. This was a bummer. I was hoping for the opportunity of credit on today's USA price (or even EURO) and maybe get something softer, more care free, like college, nikki, maybe a second loulou.

The difference between what I paid and current price is now about $1300. another YSL item, right?!
I chose exact replacement. The receipt is stamped with No refunds/No replacements. Though I was told repairs may still be an option within 2 years.

Now do I hope for the best and try to enjoy? or try to sell independently/fashionphile, and try to get something less worry free? Would I be right back where I started?

Thank you to everyone for lending an ear to my first world problems. Hope this experience happens to no one, but sheds some light on scenario.

If you really want to keep this bag, then receiving a replacement should be sufficient.

However, if you will be constantly worrying about damage and defects then you'd probably be unable to enjoy the bag to the fullest. So then you can go for credit.

Having sold a variety of brands on the pre-loved market, personally and using services like the TRR, I would recommend not to go on this route unless you are aware of what you may be dealing with.
Selling independently always gets the most bang for your buck but it is time consuming, stressful dealing with others who always want to underpay you, and stressful when shipping out an item and hoping it reaches to the destination without issues.
Using consignment services is more worry free, but they will take a solid chunk out of the sale (25-30% at least) and it being YSL is not the hottest item on the market nor does it hold its value well. So you may be getting less or exactly what you paid for without any profit. You can do a quick browse on TRR or Fashionphile to see what prices your item is currently be sold at and get an idea of how much money you will get back.
Any bag that I bought pre-loved in 2017-2018 I was able to resell with a profit or break even just because the deals for pre-loved items were very very good back then. However, that is not the case today unfortunately.
So when I sell on the pre-loved market now, unless its a Chanel or Hermes item, I always expect a 25-50% loss, even when my items are barely used and basically new.

Just my thoughts based on my experience.

You do you!

OUCH! I appreciate your insight. I've never sold a bag before. I thought maybe since its Beige w GHW, I'd have a better shot at a decent price, but I think you're right. I have an LV Trocadero 27 I was thinking of selling, but guessed I'd probably get $1-200 from fashionphile or reseller at best, and that just sucks. Selling myself would probably stress me out too much.

Hoping I'll get over it. I mean what are the odds lightning strikes twice?! LOL
