I’ve been a yellow gold girl forever. Everything I own is YG along with a few two tone pieces, but everything has a bit of YG in it for the most part. I don’t own rose gold and always thought it was a little trendy, but I remember I had these pictures of a RG VCA watch I tried on a while back. People often say that fairer skin tones suit RG better and that it looks more youthful. I’m in my early 20’s, so it kind of got me thinking. I hear most often that people pick based on what suits their skin tone. Pink is my favorite color, so it’s a bit funny I’ve never thought to get a couple RG pieces, but I’m starting to think I may want to in the future. Do you think I suit both YG and RG or one over the other?phonto.jpeg

I also prefer the yellow gold on you. If you are looking to branch out, I also feel that white gold looks very fresh and youthful and I think would suit your skin tone as well!

I think part of it is an issue of the watch styles, part of it is a matter of your own skin's undertones. Whether you are fair skinned or not, what shade of gold will look better on you will depend on your own skin's undertones. Are you rosy? Olive-toned? Do you tan at all or do you burn as soon as you go our in the sun? Are you freckly? Do you use foundations that are warm-toned or cool-toned? That should give you a sense of whether you should be wearing yellow gold, rose gold, or white gold/platinum.

I never thought of rose gold as trendy, as you can see the vast majority of vintage fine jewelry has a rosy tone as compared to a yellow tone. I am voting for the rose gold in your case. Rose gold really compliments all skin tones, which reminds me of a story about Mabel Ringling of Ringling Barnum & Bailey fame. As John and Mabel were building their beautiful mansion in Sarasota along the intracoastal waterway years and years ago, Mabel insisted on installing the vast majority of the windows in the mansion with glass that had a rosy tint to it. She said that she wanted all the woman to feel beautiful in her home, and having a rosy tint to the windows, especially around sunset, made everyone look happy and healthy. I think she definitely knew what she was talking about there.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments and advice! I got curious about the WG/silver comparison, so this is one of the closest things I have (it’s in stainless steel) and I tried to do a side-by-side with my gold watch. I’ve honestly always been confused about whether I’m warm or cool or neutral (I think I’m neutral but certain colors on me can make me lean a warmer or cooler I think?) I’m not sure! I used to be a bit into silver in my teens, but for many years now I’ve fallen in love with the warmth of YG and never looked back. I don’t think either look bad? But I really can’t tell if one looks better!

I love the white metal on you too! Truly, I think you can wear both equally well.
